Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Review

by - January 14, 2016

I have shopped ton of makeup products in the past couple of days. I am extremely excited to show them to you. I am going to upload reviews of individual products, but if you need anything further, let me know.

I was a Colossal girl until today. I purchased this from Snapdeal.com for 425; whereas its MRP is 499. I purchased it on the recommendation of my best friend. I thought that ₹499 was expensive, as I use kohl on my eyes everyday. But, when my best friend told me that she had purchased this eyeliner eight months ago and that approximately half of it was still remaining, I was convinced that this was the best deal.
I used to purchase kohl, which is for ₹200, after every two months. If I take eight months in account, I used to spend ₹800 on kohl, whereas, this eyeliner will seemingly stick with me for a longer period and will cost me only ₹425. I thought that this was a good investment. Also, she had said that the application is smooth and that she was satisfied.

Anyway, to know my views on it, let's get into the review.

PACKAGING
I did not like this black box at all. Honestly, I would have designed a better box than this. The red and black combo, the fonts used, and the picture...all are very unimpressive.
Apart from that, the products are classy and worth showing off. The pot of the eyeliner is tiny, but it holds a lot of liner. The square stand of it is what I liked. Also, the brush is an amazing addition. We don't need to spend extra to buy an eyeliner brush, as we get inside this, exclusively. The brush has an opaque cap, and I'm blown away by it. I had thought that it would be difficult to carry these two around, but the fact that the brush has a cap relieved me.
Anyway, I would prefer carrying one unit of eyeliner than two (though it looks cool to carry these two together!).

TEXTURE & APPLICATION
The liner is thick; it is as thick as a kohl. I personally did not find the application smooth, and I'm wondering how my best friend loved it. Maybe it is because I've used it just twice. The brush is comparatively thicker, and so if you're expecting to draw a thin line for cat-eyes, you'll be disappointed. It will require lot of patience to draw a fine, pointed line, if ever you claim that this product can do it! A good thing about it is the quantity it has. It is 2.5g, but has lot in it. However, the best thing about it is that I can use it as a kohl on my waterline too!
I've heard that the brush gets hard/rough if not washed properly or taken good care of. Also, the liner dries up faster. It is recommended to switch off the fan while applying it. I've also heard that we need to wet the brush if it dries, so that we get a smoother consistency.

LASTING POWER
It is written on the box that it can last for 36 Hours. It is smudge-proof and water-proof, which means it will require lot of efforts to wash. Therefore, it is a good buy for monsoon or summer, and also if you're a swimmer and don't like naked eyes.

HOW IT LOOKS & HOW I FEEL
Talking about the product, I  have already explained how the product looks like. The consistency is quite thick. It is matte finished and I liked that aspect of it. The eyeliner is pretty dark and so it gave a bold, black definition to my eyes. I felt as if I've applied jet-black coal, which is a good thing!

ADVANTAGES

  • Good Investment
  • Matte Finish
  • Dark
  • Stylish
  • Brush has a cap
  • Goes on for more than eight months
  • Smudge proof
  • Waterproof
  • Liner does not spill from the pot
DISADVANTAGES
  • Thick
  • Brush is not smooth
  • Two units instead of one, which is difficult to carry as compared to one unit
  • Longer time required for application as compared to one unit eyeliners
  • The brush is not capable of drawing fine, pointed lines
  • More difficult to use

CONCLUSION
I would recommend this eyeliner for its cost, lasting power, and the shelf-life. But if you have a higher budget, I would not recommend this, as I did not find its application worth spending that much amount of money. I don't think I'd repurchase it, as I will try better eyeliners in this type, but in a higher range. (If you go by my best friend's reviews, she'd recommend it to you!)

Which eyeliner do you use?
