The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

I've been wanting to paint tin boxes at home since a long time. When I'd got this tin box of cookies, I'd saved it and stashed all my makeup inside. Now this box sits mightily in my closet. Absolute chic!

I went to a hardware store and got paint and a brush for myself. Initially, I was gonna put the polka dots as pink and gold, and not just gold. But, I failed to get the turpentine and so I used only gold and white.

Let's get started with how it's done:

THINGS YOU'LL NEED
  • Newspaper
  • Tin Box
  • White Paint
  • Gold Paint
  • Red Paint (if you want pink colour)
  • Brush
  • Tape or other round object
  • Thread (optional)
  • Small Bowl (to mix white and red)
  • Pencil
  • Rough Cloth
  • Sponge (I strongly recommend)

STEPS

1. Paint the lid with gold paint. Keep aside 6 hours for drying. I'd kept for one whole day. You can even apply two or more coats.

2. Paint the base of the box. To avoid the above unfinished look, paint with sponge. Keep for drying.

3. Draw circles using the round object or randomly, with your artistic skills, draw them with an imaginary compass.

Tada! Your makeup box looks great!

Have you ever tried painting your makeup box?

We can’t separate denims and divas from each other. We live in denims and live for them! It’s difficult to come across a fabric that is as versatile and chic. We’ve seen top-spot models like Kendell Jenner and Gigi Hadid sport various looks in their beloved denims, popularizing denims to a large extent. So why again, is this wonderful work-worn fabric so attractive? One reason could be the re-emergence of the ‘90s trends and another could be that denims never age! Also, the more damaged your denims are, the more desirable they get. So, here is how distressed denims can reinvent your everyday attire; read on!

1 | THREADS AND SHREDS

Not to worry, you won’t find yourself in a tangled mess! Shredded jeans may look a little ragged owing to their threadbare appearance, but it’s really an invaluable pair your wardrobe is missing. Choose a boxy, striped collared shirt and punch it up with your saucy shredded jeans and a pair of cat-eye sunnies. Let your white sneakers sparkle to great effect and carry a bag on your arm that suggests sheer elegance.

2 | WHEN YOU LIKE SHORTS DISTRESSED

You can’t hide a pair of hot legs! Kendell Jenner reveals that she can make denims work with effortless ease and charm. Her slinky shirt gathered in a cute knot at the waist is paired off smartly with a long cape-inspired shrug and smart white sneakers.

3 | SIZZLE IT UP IN A DENIM SKIRT

You’re setting out for a lunch break a few blocks away from your office, and it’s the perfect time to step into your off-duty shoes. Wear a clear-blue high waist skirt with a cool off-white office shirt and clinch it with a braided belt at the waist. Your gleaming sandals will immensely complement your attire and you’ll be good to go.

4 | JIVING IN THE JUMPSUIT

Your jumpsuits will certainly jump to your aid this summer. Patchy blue or faded, either way, your jumpsuits are way too cute to be sitting idle in your cupboard. So pull them out, buy yourself a sleek new bag and step into great plimsolls while you’re at it. Leave your hair gracefully open and feel the scintillating sunlight play on your skin.

5 | LACED AND DISTRESSED

Avoid sticky summers by choosing light breathable fabrics. Get yourself a see through, light button-down top and partner it with shorts that have shredded ends and embody a little lace. Feminine and fashionable does the trick! Also don’t forget great footwear to make this infallible look work.

How do you like to wear your distressed?

Nivea's Whitening range of deodorants was so much in rage few years back. I'd used one of its products and was quite happy. But, whatever deodorants Nivea has been bringing in India lately are stunning! They're light and alcohol-free.

Until now I have tried Pearl & Beauty, Whitening Smooth Skin, and Energy Fresh deodorants. I think I'm gonna try all of these. As they're alcohol-free, I can use them without any worry. One more thing I liked is the soft fragrance it leaves. Few (or all) of them are designed to protect underarms too and so I recommend these. Before purchasing it, just make sure to sniff for the fragrance. I personally loved the fragrance of the Energy Fresh as it has lemon grass extracts.
(There could be more Nivea deodorants out there too, but these are from their official site.)

The price is between Rs.190 to Rs.199 (at least that's what I've seen on their bases), but they are also available at discounted prices online.

Have you tried a Nivea deodorant yet?

It was a fun and informational workshop hosted by Asian Paints at the Colour Store, Bandra on the occasion of World Interiors Day. The speaker was the Production Designer Shruti Gupte, who has designed sets for the films like Aisha, Khoobsurat, Taare Zameen Par, The Lunchbox, etc. along with many commercials.

This workshop explained how to draw inspiration from the movies and how one must go ahead with experimenting different colours, instead of keeping the walls with regular whites, off-whites, creams, and beiges. Just like the sets are built according to the personality traits of the character, you should too imagine yourself as the hero of your film, and design your rooms accordingly.

You can add frames, flower pots, or a bit of texture to the otherwise boring wall in your house. If you observe, two apartments in the same building might have similar placement of pillars and the like, but the choice of colours, artefacts, wardrobe, and material is what we choose according to our needs. For example, in a house of a bachelor, you might not find a plant, but in a house where there's a caretaker, be it a mother, wife, sister, or a domestic help, you can spot plants, as there's someone to water them.

Shruti also spoke about lights and how they affect the mood. By properly placing lights, one can illuminate the room in the right way. Also, she told about the importance of natural lighting, i.e., no matter how beautiful you decorate your house, if there's not enough light coming in, the decoration could go waste.

Here are some of the stills* from her designed films:

After her tips on interior inspiration, the Asian Paints team gave us a blank sheet with double-sided tape. They later gave us small squared images that were of quirky furniture pieces and other mind-blowing ideas.

They also provided us with fabric cut-outs and colour shades.

We were then asked to pick a fabric cut-out, an image of a quirky furniture piece, an image with a random object, and a colour that would be in our dream rooms. We were then asked to stick them on the blank sheet provided to have an Inspiration Board for ourselves to hang in the room.

Asian Paints has always been conducting such activities and events to help its customers with designing their dream homes. They help in colour combination on not just walls but wood too. The Colour Store, Bandra is an amazing place to visit, and if you're looking for some interiors-inspo, this is the place to be. The store is located on Hill Road and has great interiors!

Here are some pictures I clicked on my cellphone; the interior inside the store is gorgeous, and they change it every season:

While leaving, they provided us with a pack of yummy food and this stunning bag that consisted a DIY Wall Art kit.

The DIY Wall Art kit has two large white sheets, a sheet with squares, an image of the Eiffel Tower that is made up of squares, a tape, beige, white, and light brown shades of colour, and finally, four pieces of sponge.
I'm definitely gonna try it as I love DIY projects!

So, if you want to give a makeover to your house, do visit this store for a fun-filled and guaranteed satisfaction! Wish you a happy World Interiors Day!
