The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

I remember, when I was a kid, international trips were afforded only by the rich and the lucky. When a person returned from another country, he/she got along chocolates and interesting goodies that truly deligted us. Back in those days, couples went within India for honeymooning but now when I go through my Instagram or Facebook list, I only see the newly weds flying off to Bali or Europe for their honeymoon.

Affording a foreign trip has become quite easy these days. And if you're one of those who have never stepped out of the coutry's borders but are planning to really soon, here's a list of ways to prepare yourself for your first international trip –

COPIES OF PASSPORT
First things first. Take multiple copies of your passport and place them in all your bags. Even if any of your bags is lost/stolen you will still have a copy in the other one and get back to your country safely.
Also, ensure you leave a copy of the same at your home. The best is you can scan your passport and store it on your e-mail. You can have access to it whenever you want.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
No matter which country you’re visiting, you need travel insurance. Accidents do occur. Medical costs are very high in countries like the US, UK, and South East Asia. So it is advisable to have a travel insurance before leaving India to ensure peace of mind. Travel insurance covers you for the following:

  • Baggage Delay and Baggage Loss
  • Coverage of Medical Expenses
  • Personal Accident
  • Legal Liability
  • Financial Emergency Assistance
  • Loss of Passport
  • Travel Inconvenience

LOCAL CURRENCY
While traveling abroad, it is very obvious that you will need local cash to pay for cabs, shopping, street food, etc. You won’t get Indian rupee exchanged right away. Also, exchange rates in foreign banks are expensive. So, ensure that you get it done in India.
You can also use a forex card which gives you even better exchange rates. And, if you fall short of cash you can use it in an ATM to withdraw.

INTERNATIONAL SIM CARD
Your Indian prepaid SIM card won’t work in other countries unless you activate international roaming package. The packages offered by operators like Airtel/Vodafone are really expensive. You can cut down your expensive bills by 80% with an international SIM card.
Another option is to buy a local SIM, but again you have to go through documentation hassles and the risks of getting tricked by vendors at the airport.

HOME FOOD/SNACKS
Carry homemade snacks which last for at least 7 days. This is very important tip for vegetarians. When you travel to places like Europe, chances are you might not get veg food, or food that might not suit your health. Falling sick eating junk is the last thing you’d want traveling abroad. So, carry something light and healthy. This way you also save a lot on food!

LEARN LOCAL PHASES
Language isn’t a problem if you’re visiting an English speaking country like the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. However, countries like China, Japan, France, Spain, Portugal, etc. don’t speak English as their first language.
So, learning local phrases such as “Thank-you”, “Sorry”, “Where”, “What”, and a few other will make it easier for you to communicate with the locals.

GET GUIDEBOOKS OR USE GOOGLE MAPS
Save the map of the country you’re planning to visit. Just in case if you get lost and not in network, Google offline map will be the savior. Alternatively, you can also purchase a guidebook when you land.

I'm truly excited to know where you're travelling. Please mention in the comments below

For some people, monsoon equals to semi-wet clothes, potholes, and a traffic jam. But for some, monsoon equals romance. It is the idea of sharing one umbrella with your partner on Marine Drive or going on a short trip to Lonavala. It equals to doing fun things together like watch movies online, have pakodas with steaming chai, or go on weekend getaways to a beautiful resort.

Well, if you are looking for the best way to spend your monsoon, then watch movies online with your partner. To help you create the perfect watchlist, here are my suggestions for top romantic movies to watch online that you're sure to enjoy!

ROMANTIC BOLLYWOOD MOVIES TO WATCH IN MONSOON

Mann
Mann is an Aamir Khan, Manisha Koirala starrer movie which was released back in 1999, when people did not watch movies online but instead, rented  VCRs to watch on their TVs. The story revolves around Dev and Priya who meet on a cruise – and though engaged to two different people – eventually fall in love with each other. The plot further encompasses many struggles, where it is to be seen whether their love prevails.

Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar Hai
Which high school or college going kid has not watched this movie, or better yet, relate to the puppy love in this movie? Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar (MP3) resonates with the love stories of many couples today. From catching your crush's glimpse to hoping they say yes, I'm sure this movie brings back many memories. Released in 2007, Rohan and Ayesha, are two high school students falling for each other.

Jab We Met
Jab We Met, the quirky, romantic, and classic movie which was released in the same year as our last movie mention, might be a movie you have watched several times. However, this monsoon, it definitely should be one of the movies to watch online, due to its rewatch value. It stars the former adorable couple Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan and almost every other girl relate to Geet's character when she says, "Main apni favourite hun!"

Half Girlfriend
Half Girlfriend is a recent release and is based on a novel of the same name by the author Chetan Bhagat. The Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer revolves around a student, Madhav, who falls in love with Riya, who just wants to stay friends with him. With a fresh setting and youthful spirit, this movie might relate to you if you have been friend-zoned!

Salaam-e-Ishq
The multi-starrer film Salaam-E-Ishq was released in 2007 and has actors like Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Akshaye Khanna, etc. The story revolves around six couples and their hardships with a strong yet beautiful ending. It is amazing to see how its different love stories end up getting interconnected to each other.

Roja
Roja is a 1992 romantic film known for its songs like Roja Janeman, Yeh Haseen Vaadiyan, Chhoti Si Aasha, and Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai. Once upon a time, this movie was synonymous with love and romance for an entire generation. The everlasting love of Rishi Kumar for his wife Roja is an epitome of love, understanding, and patience. Surely, it is one of the most romantic movies to watch online this monsoon with your beloved one.

At some point in time, every girl decides to get a wardrobe revamp. From clothing must-haves to classic jewellery, I'm sure you're hunting for fashion advice on the internet right now. I had been through this phase when gradually I built my wardrobe. From owning t-shirts from the men's section to finally having all that it takes to remain fashionable, my wardrobe has sure gone through a major reformation. If you knew me before I turned who I am today, I'm sure you would be surprised. From someone who wore loose t-shirts with slippers or canvas sneakers, now my shoe rack has a variety of shoes fit for different occasions and different moods.

If you're looking for some shoe fashion advice, then continue reading.

TYPES OF SHOES EVERY WOMAN MUST OWN

BALLET FLATS
Ballet flats are a go-to formalwear option for many women. If you don't have a classic pair, I suggest you view more options to buy shoes online. You shall get a variety from velvet to suede fabric and from leather to rubber. Pick a pair with cute embellishments such as a studded square or a bow.

BEACH FLIP-FLOPS
These are the most basic type I'm sure you own already. A pair of flip-flops ideal for the beach or for running errands or for simply travelling on long distance train journeys. There are plenty of beach flip-flops available in the market and if you don't own a cute one already, I think you should definitely buy one.

FANCIER FLIP-FLOPS
There are two types of flip-flops: the rough-and-tough one which I mentioned above and those that are cuter. These flip-flops go really well with fancier outfits as well as can add an oomph to any casual outfit. Such flip-flops or 'flats' suit dresses, jeans, or even laidback shorts.

WHITE SNEAKERS
If you don't have a pair of white sneakers, then what are you waiting for! Buy shoes that are well-fitted as I believe white sneakers go with any outfit. At some point in time, you'll be so surprised seeing that almost every other outfit you pick have white sneakers as these are simply too comfy.

BLOCK SANDALS
Block heels are a classic pair of shoes you must own to pair with a nice summer dress. On simple occasions you can wear a pair of flats, however, to make a fashion statement, head for block heels or platform sandals instead. My pick would be tan, something in the brown shade as it goes well with most of the dresses. You should definitely buy shoes that are universal, meaning, they go with any dress you pick!

JOGGERS
Irrespective of whether you are a fitness freak or not, every woman must own a pair of fitness shoes. If you don’t have one yet, buy shoes that are bright and fun. Almost every manufacturer out there produces bright coloured shoes such as pink, orange, purple, and so on. The best part of joggers is that along with using them as your fitness partners, you can even pair them with casual outfits, so whether it is simple jeans and tee or a tracksuit while visiting a theme park!

GO-TO HEELS
I have many friends who don’t own even one single pair of heels. Either their heels are too short (almost negligible) or they only prefer flats. Please buy shoes that have heels for fancier occasions. I get it, you’re not comfortable in heels; however, I’m sure you must have not tried all types of shoes! Please don’t give up until you find a perfect pair. Trust me, you’re gonna feel so much better after you own one.

TRADITIONAL FOOTWEAR
Ahan! Being an Indian, you must already be owning a traditional pair that goes well with all the Indian outfits you have, so whether it's a pretty lehenga or a simple straight kurti. If you still wear those ugly black sandals, then please, I urge you to head out for shopping now!

Apart from the shoes mentioned above, you can even stock on boots, slip-on flats, gladiators, and ankle-strap shoes! What's your list of must-haves?
