The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

I hope you guys remember my 'pretty file/folder'. So, after telling you how important it is to have one of these folders, let me show you what's in that? Of course you can keep your papers inside. But trust me; mine has more different things than just papers.

This is how it looks like, and I'm sure you must have seen it many times on my blog.
These folders are available at any stationery store. You just need to have enough luck to get a good one!

This is definitely the back side of the folder. It's more of clear than printed.

This folder has all of the craft items, not the supplies, but the papers. I keep these invitation cards inside. The last time I posted about a birthday card, I used one of these. So, treasure these cards, they'll be of major use.

What do you do of the left-out papers after cutting your desired shape? Throw them away? Well, I suggest keeping them safe. You never know when you'll need a small size of the desired paper. You don't wanna go down to the store, and buy a new one just for a small paper, do you? So better try this.

I keep my newspaper cut-outs in here, too. You never know when you'll need them. I've collected few tips from the newspapers, too. I will be posting soon.

Remember this paper I used to write the birthday message? I got this book free or you can say as a gift from online store in Shanghai. I sort of bought too many items online, so they gifted me this!

I also keep my labels and stickers in here. There isn't much of a collection of all of these now, but once upon a time, I did have.

And last but not the least, my kindergarten report cards. I know a serious and vital thing like this should be kept somewhere safe, but trust me, this place is safe too.

I wiped off the dirt and dust from my Computer and its table on the last month's 25th. So, I made it a point to do this as a routine, maybe.
Today I cleaned it, as I couldn't make it on the 25th December.

This is the photo of the cleanup.

So basically, I'm gonna make it a routine- to clean the computer table every month.
If you guys are bored by your mother's constant "Clean your computer table", then I guess this would be a great idea. This way you won't feel that she is constantly asking you to clean it plus it would remain cleaned on a monthly basis.

So how is it going to be possible? I'm sure you're not a human-calender.
This is what I did- I wrote PC Cleanup on the 29th of the next month, i.e., January, in my agenda. So the next time I open it to see, it would be clearly written there.
You don't need to own an agenda/planner/Filofax for this. You can write on your wall's calender, or maybe on your phone's calender.

The things I used were a liquid soap and an old cloth. I hope you take interest in cleaning the-place-at-which-you-are-the-most, too!

We are organizing another event for our society: New Year's Party. It's going to be fun. Of course there will be oldies more than the young crowd, but never mind. I feel you can have fun, any where, with any one, and at any place. So while other people of my age will be hanging around, partying hard and dancing with best friends, I would be with my mother, building friends, aged society members and SAFETY.

Whatever it is, we decided to make three Invitation cards, for each building in my society. These cards would be pinned to the notice board, after we get done with our dinners, tonight (well, I'm having my dinner right now).

The cards are very simple, yet, loved them.

(Sorry for hiding my society's name.) The layout was drafted by me, and the handwriting is of a 5th grade girl. I must say she's done a great job. Other things are done by us all.

Things that I used-

  • Tinted Sheets
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Sketch Pens
  • Marker
  • Glitter Glue
  • Eraser

Favorite Specifications of the Card-

I loved the glitter partially used on the words NEW YEAR PARTY. The glitter emphasizes these words. The 'Shree' that you can see is how my mom tells me to begin good stuff with.

So, the total contribution from one individual (society member) is Rs. 50. I know, it is very cheap. We have decided to cook the menu at one member's house. It's going to be an economical party!

I also loved the color combination and my favorite tinted sheets.

So, what are you creating this New Year's?

Stationery shopping means more of DIY stuff for the blog. I'm excited to show it you guys. If you're my Instagram follower, then you must have seen the things already, but, if you aren't, then here's a treat for you, especially if you love stationery and craft!

I bought all the stationery/craft materials from Crawford Market, Mumbai. The sellers sell their items on a wholesale basis, which means, the prices go down for the buyers. My friend introduced me to this market. Not that I din't know about it earlier, but I always thought this was a more of regular market, where you get veggies, crockery, utensils, etc. But I'm glad I came to know about this place. Most of the architectural, engineering or the arts students come here to buy project papers, colors and brushes in bulk amount.

It seems less, but trust me, I'm very happy to buy these-

  • Glitter Glue
  • Max Pens
  • Tinted Sheets
  • Whitener
  • Washi Tape

I got this packet of six glitters for Rs. 40. Now I don't know if it's less or more, but anyway I bought it. Glitters were in my checklist. These glitters are longer than we usually get in stores. Glitters are useful to add up fun in otherwise boring projects.

Max Pens are very cheap. I got a packet of 20 pens for Rs. 45. All of them have black ink. I hope I don't get bored using a similar looking pen, every time.

These tinted sheets are the most favorite out of this shopping. There are 100 sheets inside, which I got for Rs. 80. They are A4, which means I can use them for my assignments and projects, plus they are 100! I can use them for so many things! They are in five colors: Blue, Yellow, Brown, Green and Red. I've made use of one of them, already, and I can't wait to show it to you guys.

I wanted a whitener to erase off my mistakes I made in my Agenda 2014. Writing the birthdays and anniversaries, submission dates, etc.

I liked the idea of a Washi tape. And thus, I got one. There weren't good designs, so I picked up this one.

Things made out of these supplies would be posted soon! Stay tuned.

I don't know why, but I love to post about my favorite drawers or compartments, and what things are there inside them. I love all the things inside these 'favorites'. This particular compartment doesn't have anything 'productive', but still, it manages to be my favorite.

This is a paper organizer or, you can say a file. I use it to keep my documents inside. A special post about it would be posted soon.

This strawberry shortcake folder is where I keep my creative stuff in. A detailed post about it, would be coming soon.

This pretty file has all my certificates. And again a post would be written soon.

A great way to treasure friendship. Keeping friendship bands inside a pouch. I've been collecting bands since my 7th grade!

I keep my papers here. There are these pages from notebooks that I've collected since I was a child. After the year's end, I used to tear the blank pages and keep them. I use these papers to make my own notes. I also use the A4 sized ones for assignments and sometimes projects.

My fancy notebooks. I don't know when and how I am going to use them, but yes, I love them a lot.

Photo albums. My mom says when I was a baby, they had lost their camera, and thus, my childhood photos are very scarce. So, I took out all the solo pictures of me, and placed them in these albums. It's good to have something exclusive.

Random stuff like the slam books, greeting cards, etc. have a sort of special place in this compartment.

Oh! My childhood toys. (No other place to keep them. So I use this compartment!)

Do you have any of such Favorite Drawer/Shelf/Compartment?

CD organization is really interesting and fun, if you really wish to organize. With the invention of pen drives and hard disks, CDs just don't work for you, now. You won't have your stuff in CDs, but in PDs (pen drives). Yet you have so many CDs lying down in a corner of your shelf. You don't need them, but, um, you don't wanna throw them either.

These tips might help you to clean that old shelf and organize your good ol' pals - your CDs.

I know, CDs are totally off your market, and you needn't bother about them. But an organized shelf is any time better. So get off your seats, and organize!

Things you'll need-

  1. CDs
  2. CD Markers or Permanent Markers
  3. CD holders
  4. Flags
There aren't steps for this organization, as such. But some pictures that might help you in the process.

Firstly, take all the CDs that you have at your place. See to it that they are named. If they're not, then switch on the PC, insert the CDs, check the content, remove it out, and write on it whatever stuff is there inside.

Later, pile them up in three stacks.
ONE: Music or Audio
TWO: Videos or Films
THREE: Software and other Discs

This is my CD holder, and it is very, very old. It is from my 5th grade, and the handwriting that you see on it, is my 6th grade's. My dad bought this from a general stationary shop, one evening. I neither know its price, nor how many pockets it has.

This is how it looks from inside.

Now, the FUN part: sticking flags and dividing the CDs into three parts. I have selected first part as the Videos and Films, second as the Music and third as Software. You can use different colored flag for different part.

This is the width of the holder.

How do you organize your CDs?

I sort of helped my mom with the kitchen. I mean, just to clean the glassware and other fancy crockery. So, would wanna write a short post on it.

These are the different glass types at home.

There are 5 easy steps to clean the glassware-

  1. Place all the crockery and glassware items on your kitchen platform.
  2. Clean the shelf/show-case where they usually are.
  3. Wash all of the items and keep them upside down on the platform.
  4. Dry off the bit of water that's left on them, using a dry cloth.
  5. Place and arrange the crockery items, beautifully, back on the shelf.
Not too much of a work, is it?

TIP: Call one of your friends, or your mom to make this work faster.

Here are some photos from my hard work-

These are plastic bowls, and we usually use them while guests are home, to serve them with Indian sweets, maybe.

Different plates. I love that big glass bowl. It has cute little apples over it.

These fancy bowls are used for keeping pickles or chutneys during functions or festivals.

THIS banana shaped thing is a blessing to a fruit-lover like me. The small steel sticks that you see are sort of small forks. All we gotta do is prick them in the fruit, and munch-munch. My mom had got this as a gift.

I love this cup. Though I don't use it much. There were three of them when we purchased. One is with my brother, one with my father, and this one, is here, at home.

A closer view of one of the glassware. This design is not my favorite.

This was it.

Thank you. I hope you'll be interested in kitchen too, now.

P.S. My mother worked 75% on it. I was just clicking photos.

Here are some things related to perfumes and scents that you didn't know-

  • Perfume makers refer different scents as 'notes'.
  • The bottom 'note' is the base of a perfume. It is the heaviest.
  • The middle 'note' is known as the 'heart note'. It is lighter and it takes few seconds before you can really smell it.
  • The top 'note' is the lightest. It is the first scent that you smell when you spritz a perfume.
  • It takes 500 pounds of flower petals to make a single drop of perfume!
  • Did you know? Some people have the hobby of collecting fun or unique looking perfume bottles. Later these bottles are auctioned. Some of these bottles have been sold for as high as 40,000$
  • Egyptians too used perfumes in the ancient times. They rubbed perfume balms on their bodies. They used them during religious and romantic ceremonies.
  • Never rub your wrists onto each other after applying perfume. Instead, lightly dab the wrists.
  • Try a perfume before actually buying one. The perfume on your BFF's clothes could smell differently than it would smell on yours. Perfume's fragrances are said to get mixed with a person's individual chemistry.
  • Did you know? When the Titanic sank in the water, satchels containing different perfumes were sunk too. So later when it was discovered, the scent was still strong and clear!
  • Your gorgeous fragrance vanishes by the end of the day? Try applying layers of the same fragrance. Apply a shower-gel, a moisturizer, a deodorant and finally a perfume! Just don't over-apply them.
  • Allergic to perfume and still don't wanna smell gross? Then there are some alternatives to that: Use shampoos and conditioners that smell good, use scented talcum powders, use body scrubs and shower gels.

I came home, just some time back. The day was long, and the journey, longer.

Vaastu Shaant is a Hindu custom of purifying the house (mostly new) or to carry out a Pujan, to shoo away the bad spirits (if any). So I had been there, for my cousin brother's house, for that!

So basically this post is about 'What I Carried' to this short and traditional journey...

The outfit I'm wearing in the photo was only for travelling purpose. We hired a mini-bus, and the journey was two hours long. So I thought of wearing my casuals, instead of Punjabi suit.

These were the things I carried to the event (there's a photo posted on Instagram): handbag, hoodie and the camera bag.

These are the things inside my handbag. Not always do I find my luggage perfect, but this time, well I sort of did.

A closer look. The stuff is divided into two compartments: one, Punjabi suit and the scents; and two, other miscellaneous things.

Things inside the handbag-

  • Travel multi-purpose kit.
  • Handkerchief
  • Earphones
  • Swiss Knife
  • Versace Versus Red Jeans Eau De Toilette
  • Secret Temptation Candy Deodorant (got it from my aunt today!)
  • College Id Card
  • Wallet (beneath the card)
  • Charger (not in the picture; was on the charging point!)
  • Punjabi Suit (not in the picture)

Things inside the Travel Multi-Purpose Kit-

  • Roots Comb
  • Lakme Eyeconic Curling Mascara
  • Maybelline New York Colossal Kajal
  • Colorbar U.S.A Naked Pink Lipstick
  • Earrings
  • Lakme Radiance Compact Natural Pearl for Fair Skin
  • Clean and Clear Face Wash
  • Meilin Eyeliner
  • Ganrier Light Daily Moisturizer
(Out of these, I used only the comb, earrings, Kajal (kohl), moisturizer and face-wash!)

What are the things that you carry in your handbag for a traditional event like this?
