The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

Though it is monsoon, one cannot avoid drinking eight glasses of water per day. Since two days, I'm applying this trick, and it has helped me to get transparent loo!

Here's the tip: After the first visit to toilet in the morning, drink a glass of water. If you drink it, you'll soon feel like going to toilet again. After you go to the toilet, drink another glass of water.

So, as and when you go to toilet, drink a glass of water followed by it. As you drink more water, you automatically will feel like going to toilet more; and as it is our little trick of drinking water after every toilet visit, you'll definitely drink it followed by the visit too. So the cycle will continue until you fall asleep at night.

It would be as if you've emptied your tank, and then have refilled it immediately. Whoa!

This is the best trick as you won't avoid drinking water due to laziness or anything. If you're leaving your cozy place to pee, you can surely walk few more steps and drink water. You can, right? Good.

Just see to it that you don't use this trick while you're traveling or are in college, as more toilet visits is a bit difficult during such times. But if you're at home, you can use this method to consume maximum amount of water in a day.

And yes; you can thank me later! x

Hello! I was reading old posts on TPCG before starting with this one. 't was fun!
Anyway, here is a list of my June favourites:

First Video on YouTube
Finally, the goal since so many months was achieved in June. I had not thought of shooting a video and then uploading it on YouTube. But I somehow did, and yeah, I'm a YouTuber now.

30 people have followed TPCG. Though I don't know who the 30th follower is, I am so happy! If you don't know how to follow a blog, you might want to read this.

Cooking
Cooking took a totally different turn this month. I cooked main course meals, desserts, cake, cookies, and snacks!

Learnt Chocolate Cake, Ice Cream & Cookies
My mom always wanted me to bake a cake. For my brother's birthday, I baked one, and I'm glad I finally could bake a cake! Check out Vanilla Ice Cream and Cookies recipes!

Rains
Though for a past week, the skies have decided to not shower their (wet) love on us, the mid of June experienced a lot of rain.

Sleepover
The sleepover with my BFF after many years was appreciated and cherished by me. (Also, check out this cute sleepover guide.)

Printables
At last, I made printables for my gorgeous TPCG readers. In case you haven't printed them yet, do it from here.

Passed Semester VI with an A Grade
I passed semester 6th with an A grade. Though I wanted an O, it's fine. And one more important thing is that I stood second, whereas I wanted to be first. I went behind the topper by just a percent. Nevertheless, I'm glad I'm finally done with all the six semesters.

Row House Trip
It was a fun two days trip. Though two more of the brothers weren't there, we did enjoy. We played table tennis and carom, and that was the best part. Finally I learnt how to play table tennis. (And I beat them in one set of 21 points.)

Got Admission for MACJ Program
Yeah! This is the best one from June! I made into one of the happening colleges of Mumbai.

Recipe Journal
I'm glad I put more recipes inside the journal. If you want to know how to make it, check it how,  here.

Planted Two Trees!
My brother and I planted two trees on the 6th of June! We are so very proud of ourselves.

That's it, guys. What are your June favourites? x

Hello! While you were expecting a post yesterday and was wondering where I was, umm, I was right here. I was at my cousin's row house. We were here for two days and a night, and we had loads of fun. Me, my two cousin brothers, and uncle and aunt had resided there, for a short trip. Here are some of the pictures we clicked:

Remember few months back I was preparing for an entrance exam to get into Symbiosis, Pune? Remember how I failed at it miserably?

I always thought I was good enough to get into Symbi. I was almost sure about getting into their Merit List, or at least be amongst the top 10 in the Waiting List. But you would be shocked if I told you on what number I was; I was 75th on  the Waiting List. 75th.

The image I had about myself was shattered within seconds. I started crying, crying very deeply. I could not believe I was so undeserving; I could not believe I was ranked 135th. Never in my dreams had I thought I would be this far.

All my dear ones consoled me saying I would get something better; they told me how whatever happened, was for good. I always smiled and chucked away their words, and thought there was nothing better.

But, after a passage of some time, I opened the Mumbai University site to check about the MACJ course. To my luck, the filling up of the entrance exam forms had just begun. I also tried other famous colleges in Mumbai for this course.
I knew, somewhere in the back of my mind, that any college in Mumbai would have better exposure than Symbi. But, I wanted to stay away from my house. I wanted to stay away to develop my personality, to get into the wild, to live my life without any support from my parents (obviously the financial and emotional support would always be with me). That's the reason why Symbi appealed me so much.

But then, a week back or so, I went to give the entrance exam for one of the top colleges for MACJ program in Mumbai. On 24th, the results were announced, and you know what? I made into the First Merit List! I was 22nd amongst 300 students. I was way up in the sky.

On the day of entrance exam, I realized how different and amazing the life in Mumbai was. Sure, I stay in one of the suburbs of Mumbai, but the proper Mumbai? It's overflowing with beauty. I was marveling at the beautiful Victorian buildings as though I had visited Mumbai for the first time. Looking at buildings, looking at the always-so-pleasant climate around, I knew that my friends and parents were right: Everything happens for good.

I don't regret even a bit to not get into Symbi now. I am happy; I am happy beyond words.

Just today I filled the admission form and paid the fees. So now, finally, I smiled, as I know I am worthy and deserving of anything in this world. Everybody is. If a door closes for you, there are million more doors that God just open them for you. You need to keep an eye, and grab all the opportunities.

Thank you; thank you for standing by.

Lots of love.

Hey there! Yesterday evening, I was out with my best friends; it was my friend's birthday, and so we met for a light dinner. And then after I came home, I had no topics to write on.

Anyway, let's get into today's:

If you have enough space in your room, especially on a low-height cupboard, or a table, or maybe if you have a vanity area, you can use this trick.

There are many such straw baskets available in the stores. Buy one, and use it to store in all the nails-related things, like nailpolish bottles, cotton, nailpolish remover, manicure sets, nail clipper, etc. It will give an organized yet a chic look to your room. You can call it as your own mani-pedi station. How amazing!

If you have a number of shades, you can just keep the ones that are in trend for the season. For example, keep all the darker shades in the basket during winters, and keep all the bright hues in the basket during summers. Cool?

Or, maybe, you can buy a small basket, and store nails' accessories only. For example, keep a glass tray, and store in all the shades you have, and in the basket, you could store cotton balls, nailpolish remover, top and base coats, cuticle cream, nail clipper, foot scrub, etc.

It's all up to the size of the collection you have. You can use trays, baskets, bowls, and glasses to store your makeup, nailpolish bottles, and all other possible feminine add-ons.

How do you store your nailpolish bottles? x

Hey! If you've been reading TPCG for a long time, you would know how lazy of a kitchen-person I was, and how I wanted to help my mom in cooking and all other kitchen related activities. And all of a sudden, since May, you will find so many recipes on the blog, and also the 'Food' page being added in the Tabs Bar.

There are various factors that drove me towards cooking. And if you wish to help your mom, or simply cook, here's a guide from TPCG that will help you to do so.

  1. Plates with Designs ~ If you're an Indian, you might probably be using plates, bowls, and spoons made of steel. If that's not the case with you, then congrats! But yes, I do, and many of the families I know, do use steel. So if you want to bring a sudden zest for cooking, there has to be a gorgeous set of plate, bowl, and spoon to make the eating a worthy experience. I myself don't like to eat from a steel plate, and that is a turn-off for me. Hence, I use all the possible non-steel things as I can.
  2. Cute Oven Gloves ~ If you're using the old kitchen-cloth, it's high time you invest in a good pair of gloves for all the activities related to oven. You can also get a cute kitchen-cloth and use it for yourself exclusively! It works. I feel totally amazing to get the baking tray out of the oven by using my super-cute red gloves, which have cherries and flowers on them.
  3. Good Online Sources & Gadgets ~ More than half the recipes that I've tried recently have all been through online sources. If you want to make the process of reading from any online source readable, you need to use sources and gadgets that will help you to do so. You can either write down the recipe on your recipe journal, or use apps like Bing Food & Drinks App to get a larger set of alphabets. The best way you can read the online recipes is by using a laptop. Keep the laptop or tablet in kitchen, and simply enjoy cooking!
  4. Cook Books ~ When you're tired of reading online, you will need a good offline source. Get yourself a cook book and start cooking. See to it that the book contains your favourite recipes, or the one you would actually try. Don't go for the recipes that require rare utensils. Go for those that would be difficult, but not impossible.
  5. Funky Aprons ~ Alright, I seriously have to purchase an apron. I had asked my mom just recently, and she happily said that we would buy one, as she is too happy to see me in the kitchen.
  6. Using all the Ingredients ~ How often do we do this? There are no sprinklers for the cake? No problem. There is no cream? We will use the homemade cream. There is no mozzarella cheese? We will use the regular cheese. Wrong! You need to stop replacing ingredients. A pizza requires mozzarella cheese, and if you haven't used it on your pizza yet, you have not simply tasted heaven. Postpone the recipe by one day if you want, but make sure you get all the ingredients. Remember how I went to buy all the food-enhancers?
  7.  Uploading Pictures ~ If you're on my Snapchat list, you must have freaked out by now seeing how often I post about the food I make. There's a reason behind that. If I have to upload a recipe-picture, I see to it that it looks (and tastes) tasty. Even when I cook, I always imagine how would people react to it. I post it on TPCG to get appreciation and motivation to continue doing it (and of course to present different recipes for you!).
  8. Making for Someone ~ If you make for someone, you'll love it automatically. If there's a birthday, bake a cake; if there's a Mother's Day, declare that you would make all the meals of the day; if there is a Father's Day, cook your dad's favourite dish. If you make it for someone, you'll cook with love and interest, and slowly slowly, a day will come when you no longer would require a special day to cook.
  9. Using Different Tools ~ I don't know why, but if I use an egg-beater, or an ice cream scoop spoon, or a baking tray, I instantly feel like a professional chef. You might try it too. Instead of using a regular spoon to serve ice cream, use an ice cream scoop one to feel as though the ice cream is bought from outside. It does work with me; you try, and let me know.

That's it guys. Trust me; cooking is a no-big thing.  Even I was as lazy as you are today, and look at me now! Go ahead, and bring a prep into your cooking, and I'm sure you'll be a great cook some day!

When architecture students get a bit of the rare spare time, they turn out plastic bottles into pen stands! My BFF, Mrudula, after her Project Paint, in which she painted a stool in red colour, is now happy after making these totally spontaneous pen stands.

Here's a sneak-peak into how she made them:

Things Required:

  • Two Plastic Waste Bottles
  • Cutter
  • Candle
  • Fabric Acrylic Colours
  • Thermocol
  • Thermocol-Friendly Glue

 Steps:

For Separate Stands:

1. Cut two plastic bottles into half with the help of a cutter.

  2. Take the lower parts of both the bottles, and soften their edges by using fire.

3. Paint the bottom by using fabric acrylic colours. (You can use random colours to give it an abstract look or can paint it pink! Use acrylic colours only, as, if you use regular water colours, the colours will eventually fade out. Whereas, acrylic colours would stay.)

For Combined Stands:

 1. Take the upper parts of the bottle, and soften their edges by using candle.

2. Take thermocol pieces, and make hole in them. (See the above picture.)
3. By using Fevicol Power (Limited Edition Glue) or Fevicol Mr or Fevicol SH, stick the upper parts upside-down to the thermocol. Use either of these glues, as others tend to burn the thermocol.
4. After the bottles are firmly erect, paint them using the acrylic colours.

So in this fashion, you make four pen stands out of two waste bottles! Now you can definitely display all your favourite pens on your worktop! Cheers!

Have you ever tried creating best out of waste? x

Hey! As today is Father's Day, though I don't celebrate it, I decided to gift something special to dad. As my dad loves food, and more than that, loves sweet food, I thought of making ice cream, topped with some chocolate sauce.
I had never made ice cream before, so this is my very first time. I took the recipe from YouTube*.

Preparation Time: 5 Minutes
Cooking Time: 10 Minutes + 5 to 6 Hours for Setting
Serves: 2 to 3
Veg/Non-Veg: Veg

Ingredients:

  • Milk - 1 1/2 Cup
  • Fresh Cream (Heavy Cream) - 1 1/2 Cup
  • Corn Starch - 2 Tbsp
  • Powdered Sugar - 5 Tbsp
  • Vanilla Essence - 2 Tsp

 Special Utensils Required:

  • Sieve
  • Air-tight Container
  • Mixer

Steps:

1. Put few tablespoons of milk in corn starch and stir until smooth. See to it that there are no lumps.

2. Boil milk.
3. While the gas is still on, add corn starch paste.
4. Keep on stirring.
5. Add cream. Stir.
6. Add sugar. Stir.
7. Stir for 2 minutes more, and let the mixture boil.

8. Sift the mixture by a sieve and remove all the lumps.

9. Add vanilla essence and stir.

10. Cover the bowl with an aluminum foil or a plastic wrap.
11. Keep it inside the freezer for an hour or so.

12. After an hour or few more minutes, take out the mixture.
13. Blend it in a mixer.

14. Pour it inside an air-tight container.

15. Keep in freezer for 4 hours, or more if required.
16. In between, stir the ice cream mixture, and keep inside the freezer again, to avoid ice crystals.
17. Serve with chocolate sauce.

That's it guys. Goodnight! x
