I wanted to share my favourite uttappa toppings ever since I'd shared making of uttappas on my Instagram story. These are not your usual toppings and I want you to try. This is my uncle's special uttappa, who is an absolute culinarian, no doubt. He loves experimenting with different ingredients (just like me) and always ends up making yummy dishes.


When I used to visit Pune, he used to make them for us cousins and serve hot on our plates. We used to eat so much! Countless number of uttappas. I especially remember watching IPL in one of the bedrooms, while eating uttappas. It's my favourite memory associated with them. We also started making such kind back here in Mumbai, and this kind is one of my favourite dishes!

All right, enough of nostalgia; let's jump into the ingredients needed!

INGREDIENTS
  • Onions - Finely chopped
  • Green Chilies - Finely chopped
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Butter (lots of it!)
  • Onion Garlic Masala (the secret ingredient!)
  • Tomato Ketchup (optional and for ketchup-lovers like my cousin!)

STEPS
1. After pouring the uttappa mixture (flour + water + salt) on pan, quickly sprinkle onions, coriander leaves, green chilies, and onion garlic masala on it.
2. Add butter on the uttappa, as well as towards the sides of it (so that it doesn't stick on the pan).
3. Serve on a plate.
4. If you want a different twist to it, spread tomato ketchup on uttappa, along with loads of butter. Enjoy the orgasmic feeling after taking first bite! (This step is my cousin's favourite way of eating it.)

This version of uttappa is a little different from the traditional uttappa. You can call it westernized or modernized. Whatever you wanna call it, I request you to try it out once!

To be absolutely honest, I love raw juices. For some, drinking such juices is like drinking a bitter tonic; but for me, I love every kind of raw juice. Last time I'd made a combo of cucumber, tomato, coriander leaves, and lemon juice. Today, as there were three people to drink, I chose more number of ingredients. Making raw juice is a time consuming task, but the result is wonderful--not just for your taste buds but for your body as well.


INGREDIENTS
  • Carrot - 1
  • Cucumber - 1
  • Tomato - 3
  • Lemon - 1/2
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Curry Leaves
  • Beet - 1
  • Water (optional)


PREPARATIONS
1. Peel beet and chop into dice-size pieces. If you're blender has sharp edges then you can cut into larger pieces instead.
2. Cut tomatoes, carrots, cucumber.
3. Chop coriander and curry leaves.
4. Cut a lemon into half.


STEPS
1. Add in all the ingredients (except lemon) in the blender.
2. Squeeze lemon juice on top.
3. Add half cup of water.
4. Blend until you have extremely thin mixture.

 
5. I'd read somewhere that raw juices are best when the fibres are strained using a strainer. Last time I'd strained, but this time, I let the fibres be. You can do whatever you like.
6. Add more water if your blender is too old to make a watery juice. (Mine is old, so I had to put little water.)

 

7. Serve and drink on empty stomach. Exercise or do yoga after consumption. 

Psst! You might feel a little nauseous but that's normal!

Tomato chutney is my favourite chutney! Every time my mom makes it, I end up eating the most share. I absolutely love it! It's even tastier to eat with hot, crispy bhakris. 
The recipe is simple and you can make it whenever you want. It lasts for two-three days when refrigerated. If you've never tasted it, I highly recommend making it. It's spicy, salty, and tangy. I hope you make it; don't forget to later tell me how it tasted. Much love!


INGREDIENTS
  • Tomatoes - 3 large
  • Garlic - 11-12 flakes or 2 tbsp paste
  • Sesame Seeds (Til) - 2.5 tbsp
  • Peanuts - Crushed 2.5 tbsp
  • Oil - 5.5 tbsp
  • Salt
  • Red Chili Powder
  • Green Chilies - 5
  • Jaggery - slightly larger than a dice

    PREPARATIONS
     1. Chop three large tomatoes in little pieces.
    2. Take eleven to twelve garlic flakes and make a paste of them.
    3. Crush peanuts.
    4. Make a paste of green chilies.

    STEPS
     
    1. In a preferably iron wok, add oil.
    2. Once it's heated, add in sesame seeds and fry.
    3. Add garlic and green chili paste. Let it fry nicely.

     
    4. Add tomatoes. Wait until they're mushy.


     5. Add salt and jaggery.
    6. Add red chili powder to bring redness. (If green chilies aren't sufficient for the spiciness, add more red chili powder. Remember, it's chutney; it has to be salty, tangy, and spicy.)
    7. Wait for all the ingredients to mix together. Add crushed peanuts to reduce the watery consistency.


     8. Give a stir. Enjoy hot with bhakri and pithla!

Really wanting to buy a white pair of sneakers but are not ready to take the huge responsibility yet? Worry not as I got your back!

I was wondering if I could handle a pair of whites, but then I just bought them! Gradually I learnt many ways how I could take care of the brand new WHITE shoes. I'm not someone who travels by car wherever she goes. Chances of spoiling the shoes are high. But, I've got these tricks:

STORE IN A BOX
This is the trick I use. Either store your shoes in a box or in a plastic bag. I store them in the box my shoes came in. The box takes up lot of space, but at the end of the day, my shoes are safe. Not only does box protects the shape of shoes, but also protects from stains of other shoes.

USE WHITE NAIL POLISH ON SCRATCHES
Sometimes, you come across scratches that are tough to clean using wet cloth. You can then use a white nail polish to conceal those scratches.

USE WET CLOTH TO QUICKLY CLEAN
I follow this as well. Whenever I have to wear my white shoes and they are a little muddy from before, I clean them using a wet rag. By this trick, you save lot of time, as the shoes are cleansed in two minutes only.

AVOID WEARING ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT
As obvious as it sounds, avoid wearing them when on a public transport. I have worn my white shoes only once in train, that too because it was a Sunday.

CARRY WET WIPES FOR EMERGENCY
If you are on a date or are with a bunch of posh people, then carrying wet wipes is recommended. Whenever you see a major stain, go to the loo, and wipe it off.

My cousin's wedding was on 19th May, and apart from that, there were many other days with wedding related rituals. I haven't clicked many pictures of the bride, groom, or the wedding, but many selfies and the rest of us who weren't getting married!

I'm gonna divide the pictures according to the rituals.

GRAHAMAK
Before the wedding, the groom at his place and the bride at her place conduct a pooja where they make peace with the planets (grahas). It's an important ritual as nobody wants any negativity.

We also had lunch in pangat style, where plates are arranged in rows, and guests eat together. The ladies of the house serve the guests food. If you're wondering why the quantity of each food item is so less, then that's a custom. The first serve always is little. Later on, sufficient quantity is served.

HALDI
 Our haldi ceremony is less grander and much quieter than many Hindu weddings. We just invite closed ones. In this ceremony, which is before the wedding, the groom at his place and the bride at her place are applied haldi (turmeric). It is to remove any impurity from the body and as turmeric has healing power, it works both ways. The turmeric is applied by the women of the house.
The ladies come one by one and firstly apply oil, then do pooja of the bride/groom, and lastly apply turmeric.

RECEPTION
 The reception was on the same day, after the wedding.

 BODAN
This ritual is done post wedding. I am a Karadhe Brahmin, but my cousin is a Kokanastha Brahmin, and this ritual is done by the Kokanasthas (known as Ko-Bras fondly). Four married Kokanastha ladies are called along with a little Kumarika (she's the one who hasn't reached her puberty yet). They perform pooja and then are given a gift (something like a water bottle, lunchbox, bag, or a similar item), rice, blouse piece, and a coconut. 
Food is served on five small pieces of banana leaves and it is then mixed by the five ladies. The mixture is later fed to cows. There are other customs to follow during this pooja too.
