My Uncle's Special Uttappa Recipe

I wanted to share my favourite uttappa toppings ever since I'd shared making of uttappas on my Instagram story. These are not your usual toppings and I want you to try. This is my uncle's special uttappa, who is an absolute culinarian, no doubt. He loves experimenting with different ingredients (just like me) and always ends up making yummy dishes.

When I used to visit Pune, he used to make them for us cousins and serve hot on our plates. We used to eat so much! Countless number of uttappas. I especially remember watching IPL in one of the bedrooms, while eating uttappas. It's my favourite memory associated with them. We also started making such kind back here in Mumbai, and this kind is one of my favourite dishes!

All right, enough of nostalgia; let's jump into the ingredients needed!

  • Onions - Finely chopped
  • Green Chilies - Finely chopped
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Butter (lots of it!)
  • Onion Garlic Masala (the secret ingredient!)
  • Tomato Ketchup (optional and for ketchup-lovers like my cousin!)

1. After pouring the uttappa mixture (flour + water + salt) on pan, quickly sprinkle onions, coriander leaves, green chilies, and onion garlic masala on it.
2. Add butter on the uttappa, as well as towards the sides of it (so that it doesn't stick on the pan).
3. Serve on a plate.
4. If you want a different twist to it, spread tomato ketchup on uttappa, along with loads of butter. Enjoy the orgasmic feeling after taking first bite! (This step is my cousin's favourite way of eating it.)

This version of uttappa is a little different from the traditional uttappa. You can call it westernized or modernized. Whatever you wanna call it, I request you to try it out once!
