The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

digital nomad remote Job MacBook Thailand ocean sea

2018 has been the first year where I’ve neither had a college to attend nor an internship/job to go to. The year has been a play of moods. On some days, I jumped with joy after receiving money and then on the rest, I wept wondering how am I gonna afford my lifestyle or simply cry my heart out because a certain company fooled me and I’m left with nothing but a lot of lessons, tears in my eyes, and cracks in my heart.

Well, it’s been a fabulous cocktail of emotions. What is it like to not have a reason–almost like a compulsion–to leave the house every day? Waking up really late, not showering on a daily basis, procrastinating to write blog posts or editing videos, and being ecstatic after receiving a message that screams xxx amount credited. On some nights, I simply cry while curling myself and not sleep until my eyes are dried out and thoughts ceased. At the back of my mind I know how things are going to work out but then somehow the motivation doesn’t show up. How can you expect me to be all cracked up to work when I have lethargic chaos in my mind?

Well, the first year went really moody. I travelled a lot; I covered more than five Indian states, travelled internationally, climbed up many mountains and explored lesser known places. I met new people, travelled solo, and finally realised that whatever I'm currently doing is my passion and my goal and my ultimate aim in life. I realised material possessions are nothing...I realised having a happy life and doing whatever I love is everything.

It's been a while since I got personal here. I stopped getting personal on my blog and simply gave out tips and reviews for you guys. However, I thought it's about time I write something only for me. I thought it's been a while since you have any idea about what goes in my head these days. (Check out 'Life' section in the main menu for many such heart-to-heart talks.)

It surely was tough (not anymore because I have finally gathered the motivation I was craving for so long). I quit my job on February 13th, 2018, and since then, I started travelling. I travelled outstate almost every other month and it was a jolly ride until I realised my savings were getting used up. My parents were happy to help but now my dad is about to retire and this anxiety started piling up only when I realised that. We're doing good but you always deem yourself a failure if you cannot financially support the family. The last few months (from November 2017 to January 2018) were worrisome for me as I started realising the truth: travelling sure does take me to places but in the end, I don't do it for free. I have to spend some money irrespective of how 'sponsored travel' or 'free' the trip is.

The blogging/influencer industry is confusing; companies want promotion but they're not ready to pay. As soon as you share with them your way of working, they hesitate to take you on board. I changed my ways of working since last year's Diwali. I realised the only way I was gonna survive in this world is by minting some money if not a lot. So I started rejecting collaborations that were only barter based. I either took up campaigns that paid me or were beneficial to my growing (like giveaway contests). It reduced the number of collaborations I dealt with, however, I am quite clear and determined on my working policy. I wondered: I am more than five years into blogging and how many more 'barter' collaborations am I gonna entertain? It was about time I levelled myself up.

As soon as I returned back from Dubai (which was exactly after one year of quitting the job, i.e. on 13th February 2019), I started putting my soul into blogging, just like those good old days. Because more than YouTube, blogging is my passion. I know YouTube is trending and it has more benefits than blogging, but on a personal level, writing makes me happier than editing videos. So I took lessons of SEO, I reflected on what things I did two years back which gained me so many pageviews, I understood that I was lacking consistency. Where earlier I wrote about 23 posts a month, I now write only 3. The difference in the numbers is massive and it was about time I accelerated my motivation.

Today I am happy. I am receiving invitations for collaborations and companies are asking me to join their influencer networks. I am getting sponsored articles on my blog. Though this is not enough and though this amount is not gonna help me survive in this inflated world, I am happy about one thing: I have started putting efforts into my passion. Irrespective of the result, I am glad to see how things are moving forward from my end. Because I believe, if you give everything you have, things eventually work out.

I know, if not today, there will be a day when I achieve my goals, and the tears and sleepless nights will be all worth it. It took exactly a year to normalise 'full-time blogging and YouTubing' for me. Better late than never, I say! Right now, I am saving up 75% of what I receive, and I know it's hardly anything but I'm glad at least I have the guts to save from the peanuts I receive. One day I shall have a lakh saved in my account and that day I would have a smile on my face. It definitely shall turn out this way, I'm sure...

Anyway, thank you, my dear friends, for reading until the very end. But most importantly, thank you for sticking beside. Love and light to you, always! I am nothing without you...

When you hear of Dubai, the extremely lavish lifestyle and the expensive stay, food, and transport is what you think of. Sure, Dubai is high-priced and you might search for Dubai budget tour packages, but the best way to travel Dubai on a budget is to know how the locals do it.

It is definitely one of the hardest backpacking destinations out there but you can still enjoy if you know the correct way to explore Dubai on a budget. I stayed in the city for a month, walking wherever possible and taking Dubai public transport through and through. So I have a good idea of how a Dubai budget trip is possible. If you're dying to visit Dubai but your budget is low, then you're at the right spot. Continue reading for some mindblowing Dubai travel hacks.

Here's how you can explore Dubai on a budget...

WHEN TO VISIT DUBAI?

First things first; when to visit Dubai? Which is the best month to visit Dubai? The Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) might sound all fascinating, but do you know, it also falls during the peak season? The DSF usually happens towards the end of December and stretches across January and a first few days of February. Which means, Dubai witnesses number of tourists during this period. And as you are aware, the more the demand, the higher the prices. So before you even plan your leaves, check sites like Skyscanner that gives you an idea of the cheapest month and even the cheapest day to fly to Dubai. For instance, the cheapest ticket from Mumbai to Dubai is on 2nd June 2019 (Rs. 6,196 only). Once you get a basic estimate of the month, go ahead and plan your travel.

CHEAP AIR TICKETS TO DUBAI FROM INDIA

To avoid the price hike, the first step would be to book as early as possible. Try alternate websites to check cheapest air tickets to Dubai. Many booking websites have discounts so keep an eye on those.

BUDGET STAYS IN DUBAI

Once the ticket is taken care of, next is your stay. Hostels undoubtedly are the budget accommodations in Dubai, however, they start from Rs 2,000 a night. Likewise, even some of the cheap hotels start at Rs 2,000. Once you've set the budget and enlisted the hotels as per your liking, choosing the best one would definitely be difficult. I personally would recommend a hotel that is a) close to a metro or bus station b) has a grocery/supermarket nearby and c) preferably has a kitchen.

CHEAP FOOD IN DUBAI

For a wholesome, stomachful meal, you need to keep aside Rs 500 at least. So whether it is buying a Happy Meal from McDonald's or a thaali (around 23 AED) from an Indian restaurant, you would require approximately half a grand per meal. Now if you can go without full meals and can survive on one burger (11 AED approx) or perhaps grab a puff from a supermarket (AED 2 only), then you'll be spending even less.

If your hotel has an attached kitchen, then you can take care of most of the meals for cheap. For instance, buy an instant noodles pack and cook it at home. You can buy ready-to-eat chapatis (around 3.25 AED for 10 small chapatis) and cook sabzi or dal in the hotel's kitchen. You can buy bread, butter and toast it. You can buy juices in bulk from the supermarket. You can buy heavy-duty chocolates like Snickers and have them as meals on some days. There is a whole lot of ready-to-eat foods out there like croissants, fruits, doughnuts, fruit-buns, etc. if you're okay to compromise full meals on some days.

FREE THINGS TO DO IN DUBAI / CHEAP THINGS TO DO IN DUBAI

Al Seef
Al Seef is a historically important area that has sand-coloured heritage buildings located on Dubai's creek. You can explore the lanes, click photographs, shop, dine, relax, and even stay here. One can taste food from various cuisines, so whether it is American or Emirati. You can either visit the place during the day time or by the night as the mellow lights offer a romantic and tranquil aura.

La Mer
If you're looking for the best place to click photographs, swim in the blue beach, shop, dine, then nothing like La Mer. If you happen to have time in hand, you must visit this beachfront to simply relax. Start in the morning, swim at the beach, dine at the fancy cafes and restaurants, shop for some souvenirs, click a LOT of photographs against beautiful graffiti art, blue skies, and palm trees! La Mer is one of my favourite spots in Dubai as it is well connected with the bus route too. Get down at Central Plaza and walk for La Mer using Google Maps. Tip: Wear swimming costumes or sports material clothing to avoid any hassle to swim. Changing rooms are most likely chargeable, however, please enquire on reaching. Another tip would be carrying mats or shawls to lay on the beach!

Al Fahidi
Al Fahidi, earlier known as Al Bastakiya, is a street near Bur Dubai with a network of walkable lanes. The place reflects the mid-19th-century traditional lifestyle with sand-coloured buildings (there are about 50 such buildings in the area). You come across museums, craft shops, exhibitions, boutique cafes, art galleries, and even hotels. One can simply take a stroll and visit museums and galleries while enjoying small meals at the cafes.

Jumeirah Beach
Jumeirah beach is spread across a vast portion of the coast and it's only through sheer luck or native knowledge can you find the right piece of shore. The public beach (that offers a view of the Burj Al Arab) is good only if you wish to take a photo near this building as you can only surf and NOT swim here. If you're looking for some swimming, then catch a bus to Majlis Al Ghoreifa 1 bus stop. With the help of Google Maps, walk till Jumeirah beach and you're most likely to reach either the no. 15 or the no. 16 beach. You will find only a couple of people here and that's about it. Swimming is allowed; there's even a lifeguard watching over you. If you want lunch, post-swim then the beach no. 17 is a better option as there's a shack on it and a Pizza Hut, KFC nearby (at a walkable distance).

Madinat Jumeirah Souk + Burj Al Arab view
Burj Al Arab is an iconic building apart from Burj Khalifa and tourists want to get clicked with it. There are two possible places from where you can view the Burj Al Arab; one of it being from the souk. Madinat Jumeirah is a market at the Jumeriah road with cafes, restaurants, hotel, and of course, with shops selling local artwork and crafts. There's no entry ticket so you can simply enjoy an early evening here.

Shiva Temple in Dubai
Do you know there is a Shiva temple in Dubai, beautifully hidden amidst a labyrinth of narrow lanes near the Dubai Creek? The temple is home to Shiva, Hanuman, Ganesha, Sai Baba, Vishnu, Durga Mata, and a few more. You shall meet many religious people here, lining up to seek blessings and offering prasad to their favourite gods. The weekends are populated, however, it doesn't take too long for the darshan.

The ideal plan would be to shop from the Dubai Old Souk, visit the temple, devour the prasad sitting on the benches facing the water. Later, going to one of the waterside restaurants and enjoying a romantic peaceful meal. The temple is quite small but definitely, a must visit to experience the lifestyle of Indians living in Dubai.

Dubai Old Souk
The Dubai Old Souk is one of the oldest markets in Dubai. You shall come across antique and traditional pieces traded by Indians, Pakistanis, Afghans, and Arabs. You can check out the old souk which lies near the Abra creek in Bur Dubai for its handcrafted cushion covers, embellished shoes, jute bags, Moroccan designed plates and bowls, Dubai-centric souvenirs, spices, and a lot more. This market works on bargain basis so make sure you know the prices well and are a good negotiator.

Meena Bazaar
Meena Bazaar is one of the oldest markets in Dubai, just like the Old Souk. You come across jewellery, traditional textiles and clothing, handicrafts, and even Indian restaurants in this area.

Fountain Show at the Dubai Mall
The 'At The Top' Burj Khalifa sure has a massive entry ticket, however, there's one thing you can do for free here. The Dubai Mall displays the light, sound, and water show every 30 minutes post 6:00 pm, which is truly unmissable. One can view from the top of Burj Khalifa (with charges) or from the bottom of it for absolutely free of cost. Do you know the Dubai Fountain is one of the largest fountain shows in the world?

Karama Market
The Karama Bazaar in Dubai is an Indian market selling first-copy designer bags, watches, sunglasses, shoes, jewellery, etc. You also get gold, perfumes, textiles, and handicrafts here. Whether it is Louis Vuitton or Gucci, you would get first-copy designer bags for less than Rs 5,500, and yes, you need to bargain to achieve that price!

Boat ride at the creek (1 AED only)
Taking this boat ride from one side of the Abra creek to the other is arguably one of the cheapest things one can experience. The 5-minute boat ride that transports you costs only 1 AED (20 rupees approximately). During night time, the scenes are so beautiful that you are sure to click some photographs as you pass by!

Dragon Mart mall
Dragonmart Mall is a large shopping area located in the International City area of Dubai and not many tourists are aware of this one. It's a Chinese mall selling beauty products, electronics, clothing, perfumes, etc. imported from China. You can bargain here, which is indeed an experience.

Jumeirah Beach Residence – JBR Walk
The JBR Walk provides anyone visiting Dubai an opportunity to shop outdoors, much contrary to the malls that are filled with air-conditioning. It opened in the year 2008 and has been one of the favourite hangout spots in the city. The Walk is about a 1.7km long and has fancy cafes, restaurants, and shops.

Dubai Marina
The Dubai Marina is located at the Marina Creek where one can enjoy palm trees, boutique restaurants and cafes. There's a water bus service which you can take or even hire cycles to roam around. Do not miss this place during the sunset for breathtaking views.

Global Village (15 AED entry ticket)
Global Village is a seasonal thing to do in Dubai. It is usually functional from October to April so book your Dubai tickets accordingly. The place opens at 4:00 pm and goes on till 1 in the night. (Just check for holidays and other details on their website!) Global Village is a multicultural festival park with podiums of different countries displaying the cultural innuendos and selling handmade crafts and garments from that particular country. You come across podiums belonging to India, Pakistan, America, Syria, Africa, Morocco, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, etc. to name a few. Along with these podiums, there's a huge carnaval (for extra charges) where there are crazy rides, various games (skill as well as arcade games), circus, and a whole lot of amusement for you! This is hands down one of the best things to do in Dubai with kids as they will love this carnaval!

Al Mamzar Beach Park (5 AED entry ticket)
Another beautiful beach area is Al Mamzar. They charge a minimum entry fee, and on top of that, the changing room is absolutely free of cost too! What's better is that it's not very crowded and the water is blue, almost wave-free! The beach is spread across a vast stretch of land so there's ample space to swim. The dress code is not that strict here so you can try wearing your regular cotton tee. The beach park even has dedicated barbeque spaces and it can't get better! If you have a large group of friends, you can grill your meat after a nice swim. Al Mamzar Beach Park in Dubai is definitely recommended!

There are a lot of things to do in Dubai, apart from the free/cheap things to do in Dubai mentioned above. I have written a full post on the same, and you should definitely check it out for some crazy one-day tours and offbeat things to do in and around Dubai. Check the Dubai travel guide here.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN DUBAI – METRO, BUS, TRAM

The best and the cheapest way to travel in Dubai is through public transport without any doubt. Where one ride can cost you about 23 dirhams by cab, the same journey via metro, bus or tram would take only 5 dirhams. Do you see the massive difference here? This is hands down the best way to save money when travelling, not just in Dubai but elsewhere around the world. Sure, this means you have to stay near a bus or metro station and trust me, it's going to be the cleverest thing you can do.

To travel on public transport in Dubai, you have to purchase a Nol card from the ticket counter at either of the stations and simply tap it to travel. Once the money in the card extinguishes, you simply have to top up!

The connectivity is pretty good and it takes you to most parts of Dubai, however, places like the International City, are not accessible by public transport. In such cases, the cab is your only option.

CHEAP SHOPPING IN DUBAI

Dubai is a global shopping centre and people from all over the world come here to shop. If shopping is your only motive then you can come here during the Dubai Shopping Festival and/or during Ramadan as there is a crazy discount sale going throughout the city. However, there might be an air ticket price hike so you have to compromise on that part.

Apart from Ramadan and Dubai Shopping Festival, it is certainly possible to try cheap shopping in Dubai whenever you wish; I have written an entire article on the same; you can check it out here. (I have included a brief write-up about where to shop different things from, so whether it is shoes or handbags!)

Please feel free to contact me in case you have any doubt. I hope you found this article useful.

shopping mall interiors

Welcome to the Cheap Shopping in Dubai blog post. I am so overwhelmed with the response I received when asked if you wish to know some cheap Dubai shopping tricks. Firstly, before I begin, I would like to embolden the disclaimer here: these tips are for those looking at non-branded items only. Anyone looking for branded shopping tips, well, you have the money, you see the discount/sale boards outside the shop, you simply rush in and buy! But for someone who is already broke due to the lavish Dubai lifestyle or have used up quite some cash and now need to save up, continue reading.

I personally don't go for branded clothing anymore. There's only one reason for it: I can buy three pieces of non-branded clothes at the price of one branded piece. Well, that's just me; I like having more clothes!

Shopping is one of the things to do in Dubai, and I'm here to guide you on the same. So, let's explore some affordable fashion in Dubai.

CHEAP SHOPPING IN DUBAI

SUNGLASSES
There are a number of stores where you can buy stylish sunglasses however I recommend Miniso. Sunglasses start here from 15 AED (300 rupees) and the quality is exceptional too. You will find one Miniso store in almost every other city centre/mall, however, if you are looking for a particular Miniso store, then simply go to the mall's website and search for all the running stores. For instance, if you are near Dubai Mall, simply go to its website and check their list of shops.

CLOTHES
I have purchased some really inexpensive clothes; so inexpensive that I purchased good quality jeans for as low as Rs 300! My favourite stores to shop for clothes are Carrefour and 1 to 10 or 1 to 20 DHS stores like Edo or Day To Day. You need to keep an eye on such stores as they have really inexpensive products. The Edo and Day To Day stores had such cheap clothes that all my tops are for below Rs 200 and all the bottoms, below Rs 400. I truly went crazy shopping there!

The Dates Market in Dubai

DATES
The UAE, or the Middle East area for that matter, is home to date palms thus producing different types of dates including those that are good for diabetic patients. Dubai produces dates as well as imports from Saudi Arabia. The dates market in Dubai sells a variety of dates including the Madjul, Ajwa, and Fard. I think dates form a wonderful gift for your friends and family. There are even dates covered with chocolate and are surely a must try! At some places, the prices are fixed, whereas, at some, you need to bargain! You can buy dates from supermarkets like Carrefour, Lulu, etc. too. The affordable rates vary from Rs 300/kg to Rs 600/kg.

TED BAKER AND SOAP & GLORY PRODUCTS
Ted Baker and Soap & Glory are probably the only two brands I shopped from Dubai. That too I did it because they were quite a deal. There are many pharmacies where you get makeup and perfumes. The one I recommend is Boots because there's always a 'Buy 1 Get 1 Free' or 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free' going on there. I purchased Ted Baker travel sized body mists on a B1G1F offer. I paid Rs 400 and got two body mists. Also, under the same offer, I bought two Soap & Glory dry shampoos for Rs 300. Apart from this, they also have lipsticks, mascaras, body lotions, and gift sets. You should definitely check this section out!

PERFUMES
Dubai is known for its perfumes and nobody leaves the city without buying one. If you are okay to spend on perfumes, then you can visit any store, however, since this blog post targets the tourists on a budget, I would recommend buying perfumes from local stores than from big malls. You would stumble upon these local stores in the residential areas in older Dubai (Bur Dubai, Al Karama, etc). Or if you cannot visit one, then try small perfume stores in the city centres across Dubai. (Pro tip: Keep an eye on local news; there are often expos selling branded perfumes for less, especially at places like Dubai World Trade Centre. I purchased Victoria's Secret body mist for Rs 660. )

cheap shopping malls in Dubai

SHOES
For cheap shoes, you can try Carrefour and 1 to 10 or 1 to 20 DHS stores like Edo or Day To Day. However, if you want some really gorgeous pairs (that too, a lot of them, and yes, the branded ones), then check out Brands For Less (I had visited the one in Ibn Battuta Mall). You would get top branded shoes for as less as Rs 1,200 and each one is beyond gorgeous.

SMALL ESSENTIALS
Don't we all love small everyday essentials like makeup sponges, pocket notebooks, cute tumblers or sweet body scrubs? If you're someone who loves buying little items, then nothing like Miniso, Mumuso, Ximi Vogue, and Daiso. The products here are extremely cheap and I'm sure you will buy a cute-something from one of these stores. I recommend visiting all the four because they're unique in their own ways and the more you explore, the more you get! There's another store called Typo; however, the products here are a little expensive. I purchased a laptop case for Rs 1,200 and it's unbelievably sturdy!

CHINESE PRODUCTS
Chinese products are fascinating because of their price point and creativity. The Dragon Mart is a cheap shopping mall in Dubai that brings China home for you. With its humongous size, you're sure to find anything from electronics, clothes, accessories to perfumes and beauty here. I bought a light-weight, 4 ft. tall tripod for Rs. 4oo and a USB reading light for Rs. 100. The only problem is connectivity. It is located inside the International City in Dubai so you'll have to go there by cab.

BAGS & WATCHES
The Karama Bazaar in Dubai is an Indian market selling first-copy designer bags, watches, sunglasses, shoes, jewellery, etc. You also get gold, perfumes, textiles, and handicrafts here. Whether it is Louis Vuitton or Gucci, you would get first-copy designer bags for less than Rs 5,500, and yes, you need to bargain to achieve that price! Another market for cheap goods is the Meena Bazaar. Definitely must visit markets in Dubai.

traditional jootis old souk Dubai
Embellished jootis at Old Souk Dubai

TRADITIONAL & LOCAL CRAFT
Dubai is known for its souks; so whether it is the gold souk, the Madinat Jumeirah souk, or the old souk, you're sure to find beautiful antique and traditional pieces in these souks.

CHEAP STORES IN DUBAI
1 To 10 Dhs / 1 To 20 Dhs Stores
Carrefour
Miniso
Mumuso
Ximi Vogue
Daiso
Boots Pharmacy
Brands For Less

TIP: Keep an eye on expos happening at Dubai World Trade Centre and the flea markets selling used clothes (they usually happen on weekends).

Apart from these stores, visiting Dubai during the DSF (Dubai Shopping Festival) would be a good idea. However, since this is the peak time, the air ticket prices would be crazy high. Please note that the stores I have mentioned above are for someone with an absolute low budget. But for those who are okay with average prices, you will surely find much more than this!

DUBAI ONLINE SHOPPING GUIDE

If you're staying in Dubai for a long time without shifting your hotel, then you must know different Dubai shopping sites. I personally shop from Souq Amazon and Brands for Less mobile apps. They have some really crazy deals and I have purchased a leopard printed trousers by Mango for as low as Rs. 200 and a velvet tank top by Juicy Couture for Rs. 180 from these sites during the sale. For makeup and perfumes, check out Souq and I'm sure you are going to be bowled over after looking at the prices!

When you hear of Dubai, the first thing that hits your mind is the tallest building in the world; yep, the Burj Khalifa. But, do you know, Dubai has a variety of things to do apart from visiting the Dubai Mall and looking below at the wonderful view from 'At The Top Burj Khalifa'?

Having visited UAE twice, once as a hardcore tourist and the second time as a traveller, as a local, I have to talk a lot about what one can do here. In this post, I would cover offbeat as well as touristy things to do in Dubai, a few of these places will lure you with their pictures!

Here's a list of top things to do in Dubai with price...

Burj khalifa with fish eye angle

DUBAI MALL & BURJ KHALIFA

To all those still wondering how to reach, how to book tickets and a plethora of questions related to this marvel, let me clear it out for you. Burj Khalifa has about a couple of floors open for the public, of course, after purchasing a ticket. The entrance to these floors is via the Dubai Mall. When planning for Burj Khalifa, firstly you have to purchase tickets from their official website. And then on the day of the visit, drive down till Dubai Mall, follow the directions to 'At The Top'. And once you're there, simply ask the concerned person and get in the line. You get a lot of time up top (you can even say, it's unlimited!). You can either book tickets for 124th and 125th floors or add up the 145th floor for some more money.
Dubai Mall, on the other hand, is one of the largest malls in the world and the number of shops and the carpet area it has will blow your mind. One can enjoy the fountain show, the Aquarium, the Ice Rink, and a couple of more activities here. Just one tip: don't let go of your family's hands here...the mall is too huge to find one another!
Ticket for At The Top Burj Khalifa (124th,125th floors): AED 146

desert safari in Dubai, camel ride, falcon

DESERT SAFARI

Desert safari is yet another unmissable activity and definitely one of the things to do in Dubai with kids and your family. Depending on the type of package you purchase, you get to go on a desert safari for about 10-20 minutes, ride on a camel, watch belly dancing, fire show, and a few more performances, have meals and refreshments with people across the world, watch peacocks dance (spotted in the summers usually), take photographs with falcon bird as it sits on your arms, buy traditional Arabian scarves and crafts. Desert safari is a one-time experience that you cannot miss. The package begins from the pickup, which happens around 2:30 pm and ends with the drop at your location, which stretches till 8:30-9:00 pm.
Cost: AED 130

Burj al arab seen from madinat jumeirah souk

MADINAT JUMEIRAH SOUK + (VIEWING THE BURJ AL ARAB)

Burj Al Arab is another iconic building apart from Burj Khalifa and tourists want to get clicked with it.

Tip: It is advisable to cover your knees and shoulders, however, when I visited the Global Village, I noticed they were letting everyone enter–– irrespective of their clothes. Nevertheless, to avoid any disappointments, please dress modestly.

things to do in la mer Dubai

LA MER BEACHFRONT

If you're looking for the best place to click photographs, swim in the blue beach, shop, dine, then nothing like La Mer. Tip: Wear swimming costumes or sports material clothing to avoid any hassle to swim. Changing rooms are most likely chargeable, however, please enquire on reaching. Another tip would be carrying mats or shawls to lay on the beach!

things to do in al mamzar beach park Dubai

AL MAMZAR BEACH PARK

Another beautiful beach area is the Al Mamzar. There's a minimum entry fee, however, the changing room is free of cost. The place is definitely recommended!
Entry ticket: AED 5

AL FAHIDI HISTORICAL DISTRICT

Al Fahidi, earlier known as Al Bastakiya, is a street near Bur Dubai with a network of walkable lanes. The place reflects the mid-19th-century traditional lifestyle with sand-coloured buildings (there about 50 such buildings in the area). You come across museums, craft shops, exhibitions, boutique cafes, art galleries, and even hotels. One can simply take a stroll here and visit museums and galleries and enjoy small meals at the cafes.

AL SEEF CREEK AREA

Al Seef is another historically important area that has sand-coloured heritage buildings located on Dubai's creek. You can explore the lanes, click photographs, shop, dine, relax, and even stay here. One can taste food from various cuisines, so whether it is American or Emirati. You can either visit the place during the day time or by the night as the mellow lights offer a romantic and tranquil aura.

MALLS IN DUBAI – IBN BATTUTA, EMIRATES, DRAGON MART

Dubai is known for its malls and shopping and you must definitely visit it during the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) as it is one of the best things to do in Dubai in December month. Just like the Dubai Mall, even the Ibn Battuta Mall is a beautiful place to visit because of its various podiums. The mall is dedicated to Ibn Battuta––a Moroccan scholar and explorer––with podiums/zones of every country he has ever visited. Some of the zones you come across are China Court, India Court, Persia Court, Egypt Court, Tunisia Court, and the Andalusia Court. The Mall of the Emirates, on the other hand, has another famous activity to offer: Ski Dubai. Yes, here you get to play with snow in their Snow Park, zip line, snowboard, ski, watch penguins up close, and a couple of more activities.
Dragonmart Mall is a large shopping area located in the International City area of Dubai and not many tourists are aware of this one. It's a Chinese mall selling beauty products, electronics, clothing, perfumes, etc. imported from China. You can bargain here, which is indeed an experience.
Apart from these malls, thre are plenty options to try cheap shopping in Dubai; you can check out my guide here: http://bit.ly/2Ne8IZJ

A bit away from Dubai...

sheikh Zayed Mohammad mosque in abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI TOUR

People who come to Dubai usually have a one-day trip planned to the capital city. The best way to travel to the interiors of Abu Dhabi is through tour agents, especially if you only have a day in your itinerary and a tight budget. Reaching Abu Dhabi from Dubai takes about an hour and a half and though there are buses that take you there, travelling inside Abu Dhabi can be a little tedious and pricey. There are city buses and private taxis that take you around. (Check hop-on-hop-off bus tours.) However, the most convenient way would be to book an Abu Dhabi tour starting from Dubai itself. There are several spots that they take you to, where a few are mere photo stops, a few actual stops, and a few noteworthy places that lie on your way. The actual stops include Sheikh Zayed Mohammad Grand Mosque (yes ladies, covering your head, arms, and legs is compulsory), Heritage Village, Hamadan Gallery, dates and chocolate market, and Marina Mall; the photo stops include Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers, Ferrari World, and corniche beach. In conclusion, a one-day Abu Dhabi tour is sufficient to get a taste of the city.
Abu Dhabi tour cost from Dubai: AED 100 approx

musandam Dibba tour package

MUSANDAM TOUR – ENJOY A DIP IN OMAN'S PENINSULA

Guess what? When you visit the UAE, you can also visit Oman's Musandam Dibba and Khasab...though it does NOT come along with the UAE visa complementary. There are tours from Dubai that take you to the Gulf of Oman by crossing the UAE border! The tour agents apply for your one-day visa and by sailing on a dhow cruise you reach a virgin piece of a peninsula called the Dibba. This is truly a must-take tour as you sail on the traditional dhow cruise, go on a crazy banana boat ride, snorkel your life to find pearls, marvel at the limestone caves, try your hands at fishing, and finally swim in the blue-green waters of the Arabian Sea. The tour package includes pickup and drop, refreshments, meals, one-day Oman visa, and the above-mentioned activities.
Tip: For those holding a UAE Resident Visa, you need to apply for Oman visa 48 hours prior
