The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

If you have strict parents then probably you're sitting at home on the midnight of 31st. Everyone in your list is partying and getting high, but you're in front of laptop, watching your favourite series. For some of you, this could be exciting, but if not, you might wonder what you could plan on 31st December for enjoying on the same night. Since there's no sufficient time to plan anything huge, I have rounded up some ideas that you could use to enjoy with your strict yet lovable parents.

Late Night Drive
Take out your car and drive to the famous place near your city. For me, Marine Drive would be the best option.

Cooking Family's Favourite Dinner
You can cook pav bhaaji and have a feast along with yummy butterscotch ice cream.

Calling Relatives Home
You can call your uncles and aunts and have a gala time at home. Cook or order food and have a get together.

Overnight Trip in Not-So-Famous Spot (So that you get rooms)
Places like Lonavla and Mahabaleshwar might be crowded and you won't find a room, so better go to places like Igatpuri where getting a room is easier.

Sleepover on Terrace
Move the mattresses on terrace and after wishing at midnight, sleep together under the stars.

Dining Out
The most common family-type celebration--dine out in a fancy restaurant. You'll get a chance to dress up plus it'll be a good family time.

Taking a Walk to a Nearby Lake/Garden/Hill
If you have a famous nature spot in your vicinity, go there.

Hanging Out at a Street Food Stall
Randomly go to a street stall and hog onto as much food as you like.

Enjoying Ice Cream at Midnight
I'm sure you'd love some ice cream on a chilly night. Grab a cone and take two scoops!

Party on Terrace (With Samosas, Music, and Mirinda)
The school-time celebration. Bring samosas and Mirinda and shake a leg on London Thumakda.

Cutting a Cake
If you don't have many enthusiastic people to go outdoors late at night, you can probably cut a chocolate cake at home.

Ordering Pizza at Home
What's better than teaching your parents how a pizza is supposed to be eaten?

Taking Out Meal and Hogging on a Spot
Take out Chinese food and hog onto a famous spot nearby.

Visiting Religious Places (For the God Lovers!)
Visit temples or whatever your favourite religious place is and pray God for a fantastic 2017 (please pray on my behalf too!)

Star Gazing on a Nearby Hill
Just go to a hill top and try spotting stars. Carry along a thermos with hot chai too.

Eating at a Roadside Dhaaba on a National Highway
Drive to a roadside dhaaba and smack your tongues on delicious butter chicken and naan.

What are your plans for 31st Midnight?

Girls always wonder how to remove makeup. The stubborn jet black eyeliner, the crazily flaky cherry red lipstick, and the hardened lashes--removing makeup becomes painstaking and a waste of time. It's even more difficult to remove when you have a heavy layer of makeup on--from foundations to concealers and from eye makeup to matte lips.

If it's winter, putting your hands in cold water is like committing suicide. So, the best way, according to me, without using water or any other jazz, is makeup removing wipes.

The wipes should be your best friends. No matter how expensive or "waste of money" you think wipes are, trust me, they're not. They're the best sort of investment. Buy a 30-wipes pack and it goes on for a long time. Use these wipes only if you've put on a stubborn product or layers of makeup (for parties or other events). I'm sure you don't apply heavy makeup everyday! Therefore, one pack will go long way.

I had purchased two packs and had got more two free. I'm still using those, and they're the best gift to my face. I don't need to worry about using water and wondering if the makeup will go with the usual facewash or a makeup removing gel/cream. You just have to swipe once with one wipe and without a fuss, you'll get a gorgeous, naked face.

So, the next time you come across makeup removing wipes, don't think twice, just pick them up and put them in your cart.

I don't eat sweets often, but I surely get those hard-to-resist sweet cravings

During my internship at Zoom, I had kept a little box of dried black grapes (manuka) at my desk. Whenever a colleague used to hog on a chocolate, I used to feel like having a chocolate too. She used to offer me and sometimes I would eat it, but mostly used to reject and then would have sugar cravings.

Best way to combat these cravings are eating dried black grapes. They're healthy and you'll feel like you have eaten a chocolate. No matter which kind of sweet craving you have, three-to-four dried black grapes will work wonders. I know you'll find it hard to eat those instead of chocolate or a donut, but once you grab one, you'll definitely feel better.

What alternative do you use to fight sugar cravings?

I'm back with a self-designed 2017 planner and what's awesome is that this time again, it's up for grabs. I had initially thought of not designing one for myself, but buy a cute planner. However, seeing the crazy prices like ₹1,500 and ₹2,000, I dropped the idea. I literally designed 98% of this in one day and then in another day struggled with the arrangement of pages in a PDF. I'm happy to see this amazing product in my hand, and I'm definitely proud

Remember I'd mentioned about my best friend getting married in February next year? I'd been at her place today. When I'm alone visiting, we have huge plans in mind--she will show her craft supplies, her stationary, her new makeup stuff, her dresses and we drool over all of that together. She's the only friend who shares my love for makeup, shoes, and stationary. We go crazy when together.

I apologize for not writing for two days. I was busy designing the 2017 planner. Yes, you read it right. 2017 planner is going to be bigger and better. It's almost ready, just have to make few changes and then....print! This time the cover is going to have fonts embossed in gold! Can't wait.

I'm gonna put them for sale, so let me know if you're interested. Oh, and if you're wondering, the colours are golden, black, and pink, and the number of pages will be around 150.

I had a super busy day today too, but I had made up my mind, that no matter what, I'm saying a hello to you guys!

As of December 2016, I have 13 lipsticks (plus my mom's one lipstick which I have not included here).

I own more inexpensive lipsticks as I don't like spending much on makeup; thanks to the tight budget. Let's jump in the collection and I welcome you to this super colourful post! I'm also writing short reviews for all the shades, so that's a bonus!

Overall, I have reds, pinks, and purples the most. I think I have all the possible colours except fuchsia; I think I need to get one real soon. Also, I am not keen on owning green or black or other weird shades. Scroll further for reviews.

InColor Matte Me Lip Cream - 407
This is the brightest and most matte red liquid lipstick I own. The application is tricky due to the bright colour and the matte quality. The lipstick stays intact until you eat/drink something. Read the full review here.
₹180

Colorbar - Rum Raisin 41
This is a dark wine coloured lipstick. It's smooth and highly pigmented. My go-to lipstick for clubbing. Full review here.
₹325

Colorbar - Naked Pink 57P
The shade bends towards purple side so the picture can be a little deceitful. I have three similar shaded lipsticks, out of which, this one's smoothest. This is probably one of my oldest lipsticks (and I think it's already expired).
₹325

Maybelline Rebel Bouquet - REB01
This one's glossy cherry red. Reliable and does not go off easily (that is, even if you eat/drink, it won't fade). I recommend it for parties and events. Full review here.
₹450

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color - 065
I had reviewed this a couple of days back and this one's the most applauded by my followers and friends. I'd even created a new year makeup look using this lipstick. You can read the full review here and the makeup tutorial here.
₹600

Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream - 24
This is one of my go-to shades for day time--may it be a date or shopping, I love to wear this around. It's an adorable hot pink and something every girl must own.
₹150

Maybelline Lip Gradation - RED2
This lipstick is powdery matte. You feel as though you're drawing with a red chalk on your lips. Applying on the inside part is painstaking as the product does not stick well. And, it's crazy, but some days the colour clings on perfectly and some days you look terribly disgusting!
₹500

Palladio - Rosey Plum 4E1
I had got it with a month's Fab Bag. This is the costliest lipstick I own. It has little sparkles over it and is creamy. Again, it bends towards purple when applied. Check the Fab Bag review here.
 ₹1,000

Streetwear Color Rich Ultramoist Lipstick - 12
This is a proper dark purple shade, but in picture it doesn't appear to be. Can you see that colour near the outer corners of my lips? That's the exact shade! The formula is smooth and the colour is pigmented. I had got it in a StreetWear set I'd ordered. Check it out here.
₹180

Elle 18 Color Pops - 27
This lipstick too feels like it's old, but it's a year old only. My best friend had recommended. I did not own any red shade those days so this lipstick was a big deal to me. I would say Elle 18 lipsticks are perfect for the newbies, especially the junior college students. It has some butter in it which makes the lipstick like a balm too. For all the mommies, you can definitely trust it with your little baby girls.
₹120

InColor Matte Me Lip Cream - 427
This shade looks like one of those Kylie's lipstick shades. I love the colour but the lips appear dark, mostly like those of smokers. Also, these lipsticks are powdery and dry and the application gets difficult.
₹180

Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream - 05
This is baby pink and my favourite lipstick for trips. I love the shade. I sometimes apply it so light that it gives me cute, soft lips. This shade is recommended too. Read the full review here.
₹150

Miss Claire Soft Matte Lip Cream - 36
My third Miss Claire lipstick. This is an orange and if you can pull orange colour off, then this one's recommended too. I think you should try all the Miss Claire shades as they're super inexpensive, matte, and look fab!
₹150

Which lipstick did you like the most?

Turquoise and purple makes such a killer combination. For the new year's, if you're going for darker shades, then you gotta read this stunning and edgy makeup tutorial.

Products used:

The Body Shop Highlighting Dome Honey Bronze 01
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Brow Gel Rich Brown
Lakme Absolute Illuminating Eyeshadow Palette Silver
Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color 065
MaxFactor Color X-Pert Waterproof Eyeliner 04 Metallic Turquoise
Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara
Maybelline Colossal Kajal
Max Factor Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation

Steps:

FACE

1. I started off by applying the Max Factor foundation on the spots and under the eyes area. I also applied it near the outline of my eyebrows to define them.

2. To highlight the prominent areas, I used the highlighting dome by The Body Shop on cheeks, nose, and forehead.

EYES

1. I applied Bobbi Brown eyebrow gel on my eyebrows to bring the hair strands of my brows together, thus defining them.

2. For the eyelids, baring blue shade, I used all the colours. I started off with dark gray in the outer corners of eyes, followed by dark purple and then light purple as I moved towards the inners. Finally, I used the lightest gray on the inner corners. I blended the colours using the brush provided.

3. For the upper line, I used turquoise eyeliner by MaxFactor.
4. I drew half line on my waterlines using Maybelline's Colossal kajal.
5. I finished the eye makeup using Maybelline's Colossal mascara.

LIPS

1. I first applied Maybelline's 24 color lip balm followed by its lip color.

FACE (AGAIN)

1. I wound up the look by dusting the compact by Maybelline on my face.

I have experienced this in almost every phase of my life. Are you aware of that feeling when you expect something from people, but in return, they hardly do anything? It's not that you expect them to give you expensive gifts, but a small recognition. A small piece of appreciation. A small piece of acknowledgement.

All my life I've experienced this. People always disappoint me and I end up thinking if I am vulnerable. I have realized that it's not my vulnerability--I'm not sensitive and a hopeless emotional person. I just waste my love and my energy and all that I have on wrong people. They are undeniably important, but you know who are those people worth shedding tears for? Those people worth chasing? Those people worth every emotion? And those that are supposed to be loved by you?
Those people who would do all this for you. Remember that one friend who is overly attached to you? The one who has cried for you and the one who wonders what wrong she does that you don't love her back the way she loves you? That's exactly the one worth giving everything.

Throughout my life I have been caring about wrong people. I remember one incident in my third year of graduation, I had cried when one of my friends (whom I shouldn't call a friend by the definition of it) said she was not coming for the annual college trip. What was I thinking? Why would I cry for her? I know that it was a collective outburst of disappointment that none of my friends were coming to the trip, but why would I cry when particularly she said no?
(Trust me, she was a newcomer I barely knew. She was not a friend, just a dear classmate you can say.) If I can cry for her, imagine what all I should do for those that cry for me?

I am purely not loving them enough. I should shout from a hilltop saying how much I love these people. I should constantly make them happy; I should do all those things that they do for me.
I have few precious ones whom I'm aiming to improve my relationship with. These are the ones that would do anything for me and love me so dearly, that it's painful.

I hope I flourish the relationship I share with them. I wanna give them so much. So very much.

I love dark shaded lip colours. I had reviewed Rum Raisin by Colorbar before and I love how dark lips can change your look. On my last day of internship at Vogue, I had worn this Constantly Cabernet shade and my boss had asked me how different I looked. The power of dark lips is indeed noticeable.

PACKAGING
The lipstick has an opening from two sides--one for the lip colour and the other for lip balm. The cap of lip balm is white, whereas, the other side is transparent, where you can see the lipstick colour. The overall body is white with the product name written in bold. The packaging looks slightly immature and it would arguably suit in a college girl's vanity and not in a working woman's.

APPLICATION
The formula of the lip colour is dry as the lipstick is matte. So one needs to quickly apply it to avoid dryness. Also, as it is a dark colour, application needs to be careful. The application is not smooth and the colour does not stick easily to the wand; you have to go deep inside for the same.
The balm is silky and glides on to the lips magically. If not for the colour, buy the lipstick for this incredible balm.

LASTING POWER
The lipstick lasts until you eat or drink something; as soon as you use your lips, the colour might slightly go. Carrying this lipstick around is highly recommended as it is matte and dark. When trying to wipe it off with a face wash or makeup removing wipes, the product does not go fully; you can still find ugly patches on your lips. The removal is difficult.
The lasting power of the balm is noteworthy as you won't need to apply it again and again. You'll have to reapply once after meals.

LOOK & FRAGRANCE
You get a gothic look, but a classier one. If you keep the eye makeup light, then the face would look exquisite. If you want a flashy look, then the colour would compliment well with a pair of dark colored eyelids too.
The fragrance is mind blowing and that's why I thought of mentioning it here. I was smitten by the fragrance of the lip balm, especially, and I was hunting a similar one in the Baby Lips variant. The fragrance is sweet and oh God! I love it.

WILL I BUY IT AGAIN?
If my budget is high, then I might buy it, but for now, I would buy cheaper alternatives. I loved the colour though. Many people asked me for its shade and I'm startled how so many of them liked it.

PROS
- 2-in-1 lipstick
- Mesmerizing fragrance
- Dark shade
- Ultra smooth lip balm
- Two products for ₹600

CONS
- Packaging is average
- Drying lip colour formula

CONCLUSION
I think two products for ₹600 is a great deal. Plus, Maybelline has never failed to impress anyone. If you're looking for darker shades, I think you should give it a try, because it won't fail to impress you too.

EXTRA DETAILS
WEIGHT: 2.3 ml (lip colour) and 1.8 g (lip balm)
SHADE: 065 Constantly Cabernet
PRICE: ₹600
FROM: Maybelline kiosks
