The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

With the end of the month, come my favorite posts. Best buys are so interesting this month, and I feel the buys are getting mature.

BINDER CLIPS

Remember the post I wrote before going to my Industrial Visit? Yeah, the binder clips. They're indeed my best buy of this month. I got a packet of 12 for just Rs. 25!

L'OREAL PARIS TOTAL REPAIR 5 SERUM

This bottle is of 40 ml for Rs. 140. I guess serums are too expensive, but I don't know how I find it at a proper rate. I loved it. I've used it just once, but the hair looked gorgeous. This is my first ever serum bottle.

CATH KIDSTON WALLET

I ordered this wallet from a Chinese online store, and it got delivered at my dad's apartment there. So while coming home, he got it. I loved the flowers on it. But sometimes I feel awkward carrying it (because it doesn't go with my personality, I feel). It's for around Rs. 250 to Rs. 299 (I forgot what it was in Yens, and I roughly remember the price in Rupees).

What are your best buys of January?

So I went with my cousin sister to IIT Powai/Bombay to visit another sister who lives and studies there. And it was fun. I was overwhelmed with their campus. It is amazingly beautiful. I wish I studied there and lived there (I've already started dreaming about it).

This is the side of my sister's room. It has a bed, a worktable and a cupboard. She has kept everything so neat.

This is her cupboard. Though it is small, she somehow has fit her clothes and her accessories inside.

This is her worktop. It is so clean, with bottles kept on it. There's a makeshift board in white, to pin down your daily schedule and other stuff.

I'm going crazy to live there.

P.S. Sorry for not writing the blog for the past couple of days.

Finally, a post on my Agenda. I'm too excited to show it you guys, but frankly I feel I haven't done a good job in writing it. It has several mistakes as it is my first Agenda ever, and I needed to be very cautious in writing things.
But now I feel I have stroke off too many things, and wasn't sure of which pens to use and stuff, so the Agenda is looking very, very bad. So right now, I won't write a post on how to maintain it, but just a post on how it is, or few tricks that I've used.

So this is how it looks. I've changed the cover. It was a cream one, with flowers. I don't like too floral-y, so I thought of changing it to my favorite polka dotted one.
I changed the cover a few days back, because I had to make a post on it today, anyhow.
There's a plastic cover on it, so I'm happy that the cover won't get spoilt.

These are the 'Resolutions'. I feel embarrassed after reading these. I wrote them in 2013 while I was writing Dates To Remember.

This is the Yearly view. There are three such Yearly views. So I used them in this way: 1. Birthdays and Anniversaries, 2. College and 3. To Do
This gives me a clear look of the entire year in these three categories.
(I haven't completed this view yet. Only January and February items are covered here, because I kept them as the priority first.)
TIP: Put a symbol describing things. Birthdays and Anniversaries have the Heart shape, whereas others have a Star shape. It saves a lot of space and doesn't look shabby.

I obviously made this page. The page previous to this had some major corrections, so I stuck that along with this and then stapled them together. Later I stuck the red Tinted Sheet to the combined papers and then stuck a Washi tape along the borders to ensure all the three sheets were together.
After that, I stuck a paper and then wrote Monthly on it, and later sprinkled glitter on it.
TIP: Always cover the bad pages with such sheets or such ideas.

I know you can see only mistakes on this page. But I'm sure I won't repeat them the next year. I've chosen February because January had all the chaos on it.
TIP: Always start writing the dates and other things in pencil first. Else you'll end up having a dirty agenda like mine.

This is the Weekly one, and no, this time I didn't go wrong anywhere.

This is the first week of January in the Weekly view.
TIP: Utilize the space provided to the maximum, and DON'T write how I've written 'Advertising Proj. Submission' in big fonts!

This is the Key/Keys that would categorize different aspects of my life. So, I would use a different colored pen for different category.

These are the flags that I stick on the page that is currently going on. For example, today is 27th January, which means the 4th week of January. So I'll stick the flag on this page.

Finally I've kept the Blog Book and the Expense Book in the plastic cover. It makes everything easier to carry one book, instead of three.

So are you planning to make an Agenda yet?

Remember I'd made a Blog Book to write all the posts and also to write on which social networking sites I'd publicized them? Well, I'm thinking of changing that book and making a smaller one. I don't publicize the posts on the social networking sites, except on Facebook, now. So, I thought of using a smaller version of it, and a more compact one, to carry to my college, and back.

This was the previous book. It's too big, and I keep it on my work table. Hence I feel lazy to take it from there and update it. So I'm thinking of making a new one. I didn't decorate this book, but just put my blog's label here, and wrote 'Blog Book' on it. This time I'm thinking of making it different and match my Agenda and Expense Book.

Things I used-

  • Gift paper
  • Small Note Book
  • A Pair of Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Washi Tape
  • Blog's Label (Not in the photo)

Tada!

I hope you liked it. Any query? You can ask me anytime.

My best friend, Pournami Jois, came at my place few days back, and went crazy over my stationery items. So I went crazy too, and started showing her all the stationery that I possibly could! And then she came across these index cards that I made, and asked their uses.

The outcome is, she made them too (and hers are better than mine, I feel)!

She posted this photo on Facebook, and I got totally overwhelmed! I hope the steps and the things used are understandable.

Let's thank her for giving us one more example of the homemade Index Cards.

I feel you guys should give it a try, now, at least.

The first thing I did after reaching home from college was opening my blog. I'm so happy for the layout. Oh and I did some more changes to the layout. I hope the blog looks perfect now.

My friend, Rutuja Nagwekar, bought a 2014 Diary, and decorated it. She said that the cover of the diary was very ugly.

Let's see how she has done this job.

Things you'll need-

  • Diary
  • Glue
  • Glitter Glue
  • Hand-made paper
  • Fabric colors
  • Decorative materials

There are simple steps involved here. So I guess explanation is not needed. Still if you want to know, leave me a request.

I hope you liked the diary.

Do you have a personal diary? How does it look like?

I haven't carried a pencil case to school/college since my 8th or 9th grade, except for exams (maybe). I really, really need to make this a resolution. It's a must to carry a pencil case to any educational institute. But, who is going to carry it anyway?
My college-mates ask the teacher herself for pens, and I'm talking here about carrying a pencil case! That'll be like a lottery for them.

Anyway, I still made a case for college. Actually I was carrying many pens to the exam yesterday, so I thought I need something to put them together, and hence this case.

After searching a lot, I finally decided to use this pouch. I don't wanna use pink pouches, so thought a clear one would be better. These pouches are mostly found on the streets in rainy season. When you halt at a traffic signal, you'll definitely find a small boy coming towards you to sell these. These pouches are available in different sizes. The real purpose of these is: protection of mobile phones from rain. But anyway I thought of using them as a pencil case.

This is how it looks after having all the things inside. I've got lot of things, so the size is perfect for me.

It has a zipper.

Things inside-

  • Ruler
  • Pen drive (it is supposed to be in a multi-utility pouch)
  • Eraser
  • Index card (I just kept it in, because it was lying on my bed, and was all alone!)
  • Rubbers
  • U-pins
  • Binder clip
  • Marker
  • Fine liner
  • Pens
  • Pen-pencil
  • Highlighter

Things I need to put inside-

  • Flags
  • Stick notes
  • Lead box

Highlights-

I love these things. I just thought of putting them inside. You never know when you'll need them.

So, the focus is wrong, but this is my 4 GB pen drive. I keep it inside my multi-utility pouch. Pen drives can be useful any time. If your friends have amazing movies, and you want them badly, then what?

Highlighter and Marker. I carried the marker because I need it to highlight things for the exams. Marker to draw a Star on my wrist.

Colorful fine liners. This one is from Stic. I got a packet of 20 pens. I have a teal colored one inside this case. I change the colors according to the outfit I'm wearing. If I'm wearing black t-shirt, I carry a pink or a girly shaded one. If I'm in a floral tunic, then I carry a brown or any of a dark color.

The pink one is a pen-pencil. I guess it is too unique to buy. I mean I haven't seen it with any girl. I don't remember from where I bought this. Others are the regular pens.

That's it. Do you carry a Pencil case?

Hello everyone! Well I still have the old styled Indian cupboard, which I treat like my closet or a wardrobe. So if you have a similar type of closet, then this post might be of help. If you feel that the closet is too small to hold your belongings, then read this post. I'm sure many of you might be having this type of closet.

This is how a typical Indian cupboard looks like. I bought this in December, 2006. After seven years, it still manages to look new.

This is how it looks like from inside.

To the right side of the cupboard, there's a door. I've hung my jeans on the hooks. This saves a lot of space. Always utilize the backside of the doors.

This is the left side door. I've put my caps and belts on the hooks that were already attached to the cupboard.

This is the left side portion, below the caps and belt.

A place to put in bangles and bracelets. Always disliked this place in my childhood. But now I know its importance.

I've kept my socks here.

The right side of the cupboard door simply has few photographs and ribbons tied for decoration. There are no compartments here to keep anything.

This is the upper side of the cupboard. Here I've hung all the floral tunics. As you know, I'm a t-shirt girl. I don't wear tunics and girly tops. So these tunics are something strange to me. Hence I wear these for presentations or small birthday parties.

I generally use colorful hangers. The grey hangers are the old. But if at all I have to buy a packet of hangers in the future, I would go for colorful.

This is the upper left side. I've wasted the space, I know.
You can utilize it by keeping extra bottles of moisturizers, sprays, or the like, or even keep pajamas and t-shirts.

I've folded my Dupattas and hung them on the rod. Dupattas are mess to handle. This was my sister Sheetal's idea. You can put your scarves here, too.

This is the place where I keep my secret box. I also keep my teddy here. If I keep the teddy out of the cupboard, I fear the dust might get accumulated all over it.

These drawers have earrings, necklaces, makeup and extra things.

Alright, this locker is a sheer waste. I haven't kept anything secretive inside. There are random things. I really need to work on that. Do you have any idea as in what to keep inside? Or, what do you keep inside of such lockers? Tell me in the comments below the post.

Oh, and that's an original horse-shoe nail.

These are the first-two compartments where I keep my clothes. First compartment has all the clothes I wear on regular basis.
1 and 2 have all my t-shirts that I wear to college. The 3 pile has all the Kurtis and Leggings that I wear to college. The 4 pile has all the pajamas and the t-shirts that I wear at home.

The second compartment has my dresses, sweaters, Punjabi suits and old jeans.

The last compartment has all my bags, purses, handbags and clutches. I've got to increase this space. There are just too many bags in there.

x

This was my traditional Indian-styled cupboard. What type of a cupboard do you have? Also, is the arrangement similar to mine?
