The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

I used this trick to shine my bag, last night. As you guys know I pack my bag for next day a night before, I was indeed packing one yesterday. I hadn't used this maroon coloured faux leather bag in months. So when I took it out from my closet, I saw there was dust and the bag was not in a very good condition. But I badly wanted to carry it as it matched my selected outfit.

To shine my bag, I just applied a pea amount of moisturizer on one side and then more of it on the other side. My bag literally shined and it was as good as though I've been carrying it everyday.

If you wanna shine your genuine leather bag, you need to first clean it with a dry cloth (in case there's any dust), and then take a little amount of moisturizer (by little, I mean, very little), and apply it all over. Just make sure you don't over-moisturize it, as it's leather you're dealing with!

Let me know in the comments below how you shine your leather bags!

I had written about getting an internship a day back, which I'd kept as a suspense from you guys. So, it's revealed. I am working at Vogue India, and very glad.
I don't know if I'd mentioned here ever, but Vogue is my dream company. If there's anywhere I wanted to see myself, it's right here. I'm glad that I got an internship. Too glad.

I badly want to continue here, since I loved the work environment, and the colleagues? Well, they're classy. I haven't made any work "friends" as such, but have acquainted fellow interns. Though these interns belong in the 'Fashion' and 'Fashion Features' departments, they sit behind me. (I am in the Features department, by the way.)

I am looking forward to working here full time, if at all I get an offer, that is. Let's see what's in store for me in the coming future.

We often wonder how we get late in spite of waking up on time and doing things on time. It is like we're right on time, having breakfast, being carefree, and suddenly there's just half-hour to get showered, wear clothes, and get moving.
I experience something similar every morning.

So, what's that one thing you must do, or rather must avoid, in order to be on time, all the time? (Just forget for instance that you've gotten up late.)

I say, keep away your cellphone! Yes, you read it right. You can go through all the notifications after waking up, but once you've left the bed, concentrate on getting ready. If you're an early morning poop-er (well, yes), you can scroll through the feed of Instagram and Facebook then. But otherwise, stick to just reading notifications, right after waking up.

I spend so much time going through the feed, it's addictive. I spend more than 15 minutes just uselessly scrolling. Deep down I know I am wrong, but then, things are all heated up on social media.

So, the next time you're struggling, know what the problem is!

Hi there! I landed an internship and I'm too excited to tell you where I've got. I'm sure you guys will be excited as well. I can't reveal the name today, but will definitely tell you tomorrow, as tomorrow I am joining the company.

This internship is huge for me, hence I am hoping badly I get a job offer from them. It's a three months internship and so I might not be able to update the blog every single day. You guys can be in touch with me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
All I want is luck from you, so that I have amazing three months ahead.

So, coming to this wallpaper, well, it is designed by me...to bring some inspiration. Feel free to download and let me know if you want any other wallpapers.

My best friend Anurag passed on this idea to me. He said his mom has hung a pen near the calendar in order to write to-dos and other notes that help her stay organised. I thought the idea was indeed a clever one and that I must incorporate it in my room's wall calendar too.

All you need is a pen and a ribbon or a thread. Tie one end of the ribbon to a pen and the other to the same hook your calendar is hung on to. Use your pen whenever you want to and when you're not using it, let it just stay hanged there.

This trick is more for those who have their pen-stands away from calendars. Since my pen-stand in near the calendar, I am not going to hang the pen. It's just a makeshift arrangement to show you guys.

You can try pretty ribbons and colourful pens to make your room a little more dazzling. After all, who doesn't love pretty things?

Do comment below sharing your thoughts on the same.

My classmate had given me this along with a foundation by Max Factor. As this one is lighter than my skin complexion, I use it as a highlighter to bring out my cheekbones and nose. So, my review will be more from a highlighter perspective and not specifically about it as a foundation.
Now, let's read on to know how I find it:

PACKAGING
I found this bottle adorable. It's small and definitely cute. The bottle is of glass, whereas, the lid is made out of plastic. The pump dispenser is also plastic, but looks classy. Overall, the foundation is totally adorbs!

APPLICATION AND CONSISTENCY
Dispensing the foundation is easy, as there's a pump that does the job. Also, every time you pump, a one rupee coin size foundation is dispensed. Applying foundation with hands or a brush is not recommended, as the product does not blend well. However, using a blender, like this one, makes the application easier.
The bottle claims to be super blend-able, however, I don't think so. It could be because my complexion is darker than the product, but, I don't appreciate the blending quality of it. The consistency is powdery-like.

LOOK
As I use this for highlighting purposes than as a foundation, I liked the way it works out. My cheekbones, my nose, and my forehead are well highlighted, and look good. Also, the dark spots are concealed well, but if you have some other concealer for that, you can go ahead with it. You can just give this a try for concealing any marks on your face. The product does look good on face, but feels more like it's a powder.

LASTING POWER
The foundation lasts for a good amount of time, and is reliable.

PROS
- Conceals spots
- Great for fairer skin
- Compact
-Travel friendly
- Easy application

CONS
- Pricey
- Not sure about the blending power
- Cannot be applied with bare hands, needs a blender

CONCLUSION
Umm, well, I would not think of buying it again.

I wanted to share my mini makeup haul since the moment I laid my hands on these lovely beauties. I haven't purchased much, hence the little 'mini' before 'makeup haul'. I wanted to get myself some beauty essentials and I had to go visit the beauty centres at the Crawford Market, Mumbai. These beauty shops are my favourite as they always have items on discounted rates.

Let's now dig into the haul:

Lakmé Nail Color Remover
I have already written a post on why this nail polish remover is my favourite. Since my older one got over, I had to buy a new one. I was looking for more options, but then, settled on this one. You guys won't believe but I've been using this since grade 7th. You know I can really be faithful, even to a nail polish remover! I got this for Rs. 68, after a discount of 10%.

Faces Correct and Care Cream
I have written a review on this as well. I don't use this product anymore as I've found a better one. The smell and the colour to the face it brings...well, I've started not liking it. Anyway, I'd bought this one for Rs. 399.

Miss Claire Matte Lip Cream
I absolutely love the colour, and I'm gonna buy all the shades from this brand as it is cheap, but still a good company of beauty products. I got this lip cream only for Rs. 150! (Check out my review here.)

Incolor Matte Me Lip Cream (Shade 427)
I loved this matte lip cream by Incolor, and yet again, I think I'm gonna try all the shades from this brand too. I got this for Rs.180 only.

Incolor Matte Me Lip Cream (Shade 407)
I loved this shade as well. Absolute class. If you want to know more about this cream, read my review. (HINT: The review's positive!)

Maybelline White Superfresh Compact
I liked this compact by Maybelline, and I have written a review on it. This is hands down the best compact I've tried till now. I got it for Rs. 150.

Vega Beauty Blender
Finally, I got this little guy by Vega. I had gone to this store with four other friends, and we divided and bought this pack of four Vega blenders. I got the single piece for Rs.27. The colours were insanely yummy--baby pink, pistachio green, lavender, and white. My friends took the colours, whereas left the white one for me. (I think I'm gonna hate them forever for this cruelty.)

TOTAL: Rs. 1,014

I'm slowly understanding what music is. If you take a look at my laptop's music playlist, you'll find just soulful music there. You won't find any party jazz, just beautiful tunes that are sure to touch my heart every time I want them to.

If you're seeking for some tranquillity of mind, either while you're working on laptop, cooking in kitchen, or simply resting after a hectic day, instrumental tunes of your favourite songs will help you find it. There are tons of such songs, and I'll share my playlist here.
Along with Bollywood instrumental songs, I also have melodic and beautiful Scottish bagpipes and some heart-touching Hollywood tunes. I swear, these songs are important for everyone seeking some mental peace.

Here's my current list of soulful songs:

Kaise Mujhe Tum from Ghajini
Roja from Roja
Heartbeat from Kal Ho Na Ho
Rim Jhim Gire Sawan from Manzil
Rhythms Of Mohabbatein from Mohabbatein
Hum Tum from Hum Tum
Tera Bina Zindagi Se Koi from Aandhi
Tum Dil Ki from Dhadkan
Main Jahan Rahoon from Namastey London
Pehla Nasha from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar
Hume Tumse Pyaar Kitna from _
Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi from Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi
Dil Chahta Hai from Dil Chahta Hai
Lambi Judai from Hero
Tadap Tadap Ke from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Humko Humise Chura Lo from Mohabbatein
Dil Kya Kare from Julie
Kaho Na Kaho from Murder
Tu Hi Re from Bombay
Agar Tum Mil Jao from Zeher

Check out this site for more Bollywood instrumental songs. If you want more stirring music, check this page out too.

On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, I had invited my maternal cousin brothers home. I have three first cousins from my mom's side, and all of them are boys. So, yes, I had invited all the three of them. However, the eldest could not come due to his office hours, but the other two and my sibling were present.

We had got samosas and my mom had made puran polis, which we gave to the brothers. I got sweets, chocolates, and cash as gifts.

I had worn a red kurta that has a shiny print on front, along with white leggings. For a festive look, I had added long and heavy set of pink earrings, pink lipstick, and a gold rose coloured watch. I loved how my look was simple yet festive.

I hope you had a lovely Raksha Bandhan with your brothers and sisters.

I was only fortunate to get my hands on this splendid foundation. Since I post reviews and love makeup, my classmate from degree college had approached me for it. She said the product did not suit her and if I was interested to use it. She also added that she had used it just once, so that there was no need for me to refuse. She also gave me a foundation by L'Oreal, however it is much lighter than my complexion and I use it as a highlighter on my cheekbones and my nose. I'll write a review on the L'Oreal one soon too.

Now, let's get into the review of the Max Factor Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation:

PACKAGING
This comes in a tub. I liked the look of it, which is classy. There's also a compartment towards the bottom, which holds the sponge. The top is made of glass, whereas, the bottom is of plastic. Overall, I loved its packaging, as it is compact and easy to carry in your vanity pouch.

APPLICATION AND CONSISTENCY
You can apply this product using your fingertips also. I use it by either my middle finger or the index finger. The application is smooth and literally glides. I just apply it on the spots left by the pimples and sometimes on the dark circles.

COVERAGE
The coverage is crazy! It is the best product I have ever used and I would never stop using it. All sorts of spots are gone, literally, gone. However, if you want to conceal the redness of your pimples, a bit reddish colour is still seen, and of course, the mountain-like nature of the pimples is still there. But, this is the best product for concealing all the spots/marks on your face, and if you're looking for such a product, buy it...just, buy it.

LOOK
The look? Well, it is slightly pink, so it looks cute on my cheeks. It's as though I have put on some blush. Love the way my face glows. However, if you try to conceal your dark circles, especially if they're mixed with some kohl from the previous day, you'll get a bad look near your eyes. So, you'll need a different kind of concealer for your under the eye requirements. In addition, nobody will be able to notice that you've applied anything. It looks very natural.

LASTING POWER
It lasts amazingly long. If at all you want to retouch, you can just dab a bit of it, but then, there won't be much of a need. If you're in a super important event, you might want to retouch, but if it's just college, a coffee meet, or office, no need to. Also, you won't need compact powder after applying this, as it perfectly sits on the skin and does not look powdery at all.

PROS
- Amazing coverage
- Pinkish (at least this shade)
- Smooth
- Easy to apply
- Can be applied using fingertips also
- Long lasting power
- Cute packaging
- Looks natural on face

CONS
- The price could be an issue
- Not meant for under-eyes

CONCLUSION
For the love of God, just buy it! Highly recommended. I'm definitely buying once this gets over.

All you foodies, I have a good news. Ever wished you could taste food from all over India, just by sitting at your place? This is a reality now. You can subscribe to this amazing SnackPackage by CarePackage.in, wherein, you'll get famous snacks from different regions of India, every month. This month, the Package delivers snacks from my hometown, Pune, and I was so excited to open it, needless to say!
Though I visit this city several times a year, I don't necessarily go to these shops. I'm so delighted to have tasted these amazingly delicious snacks from my very own city, after such a long time.

I'm gonna review this month's package, and share some photographs, so that you exactly know what comes inside.

PACKAGING
It comes in this simple white box, with the name of the company on top, adorned with beautiful yellow and blue ribbons. Since it's a startup, you cannot expect a top-notch packaging. Honestly, whatever came inside was too yummy to even care about the package.

CONTENTS
The snacks are from Pune's three of the most famous Mithaiwalas/Bakeries, and I'm not bluffing. When I say this, I know for sure, and you gotta trust me. When I opened the package, even my mom was happy, as she could eat Bhakarwadi after many months. The package includes:

  1. 250g Bhakarwadi from Chitale Bandhu
  2. 3 Sonpapdi from Kaka Halwai
  3. 250g Shrewsbury Biscuits from Kayani Bakery
I am satisfied with all the chosen products. I wish there was Chitale Bandhu's Amba Barfi too, but since it is a wet sweet, it could have become stale until it was delivered. All the three items chosen are dry, and could last long. The taste? I'm nobody to comment; these snacks are from Pune's three of the legendary shops, and nobody has a say on the taste; it's lip-smacking!

CONCLUSION
If you're a foodie, you should definitely go for it.

EXTRA DETAILS
This SnackPackage has subscription options, wherein, every month, you'll get a call, and if you'd like to continue this package, you can do so, and then pay per month on COD, PayTM or Bank Transfer basis. They'll be launching the 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months subscriptions soon, so stay tuned on their page.
PRICE: Rs. 299 per month (the 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months subscriptions will include discounts)

PS. This service is available in Mumbai and its outskirts, however, if you're based out of Mumbai and still want this, you can contact and request them here.

You guys won't believe but I went for a monsoon trip to a nearby beach yesterday. My seniors from college had their passing-out/graduation-ceremony on the 13th, and I got home after it at 10:00 in the night. I was checking my cellphone, like we do after we finally lie down on a busy day. I was chatting with my best friend Anurag and he asked me if I could join him and the Lohagad Trek 'team' for Kelwa Beach. I was in two-minds, and was wondering whether my parents would allow me or no, since I'd just got back home. But, I gave it a shot and asked them. They were not readily allowing, but I somehow managed to coax them.

So, we decided to go. We had decided to leave at 5:00, but his brother and his wife did not wake up early, and so the start got delayed to 8:15. We went by his Bhabhi's (sister-in-law's) car, Maruti Ertiga. We took almost an hour and 45 minutes to reach the beach. Those three had already visited it and they were in love with the beach's cleanliness. However, after reaching, due to the high tide, the beach was dirty and the garbage from the water was all over the sand.
We, therefore, thought of trying the Mahim Beach, which was just 4 kms away from this beach. We went there just to find that the Mahim Beach was worse (and even more deserted); there was no way we were going there. So, we went back to the Kelwa Beach.

Though there was dirt near the entrance to the beach, the faraway place was much cleaner. So we settled there. We had Wada Pav and the Idli Chilli Anurag's Bhabhi had made. After that, we laid down the newspapers on the sand and rested for merely five minutes. Anurag wanted to get wet, so he asked me if I was interested. I immediately agreed, as I love to swim and I love to swim in seas. We asked the couple, but out of them only Bhabhi was interested. So, we three went inside; whereas, Anurag's brother was securing the iPhones and the wallets.

Anurag and I went deep inside, however, his Bhabhi was a little scared to face the waves. She said she loves swimming in pools but not in seas. We forced her and she was with us in our spot for a couple of minutes. Then Anurag and I went back to the shore. His brother gave him all the wallets and cellphones, and then he, along with his wife, went inside the beach. His brother didn't get wet even a bit. They came back and after collecting our belongings, we went back to our car.

We changed to dry clothes in surprisingly clean toilets that were just outside the beach. We also had two Star Fruits, which were sliced and topped with the amazingly yummy red chilli powder and salt masala. (I have written a post on this 'Masala' trick before.)  We then left for coming back.

We didn't click many pictures this time, just a couple of them, which I've uploaded below:

With the long weekend approaching, I'm sure you guys must have planned a monsoon trip. In order to have a fun trip, you must ensure that you've carried it all. I've compiled all the necessary items that one must carry in their carry-ons and their luggage bags, so that you don't miss out on anything!

HAIR SERUM
I had written a whole post on this yesterday. Go ahead and read why carrying a hair serum is important in monsoon.

FLAT COMB
Don't use a brush on wet hair. Instead, carry a flat comb, which has wide teeth, preferably. Comb down to get tangle-free and smooth hair. I use Roots No. 38 Comb.

HAND SANITIZER
This is such an important product. During monsoon, everything seems so unhygienic, including your own hands. So whenever you wanna have food, make sure you've sanitized your hands with this.

TISSUES
Any trip is incomplete without tissues. Carry a pack of tissues so that you can use them to wipe off your hands after hogging on some snacks in the car.

CLOTH (TO WIPE WATER)
This is one thing you must carry. Whenever you get back in the car after taking selfies near the waterfall, I'm sure your cellphone has those tiny water-drops. In order to wipe them, you'll need a rough cloth. You can also wipe those muddy drops on your legs using this. Often, even the seats are wet due to our partially wet bodies; you can wipe the seats with this multi-functional cloth.

TOWEL
If you're going to get wet in rains, like during treks, you'll need a towel to dry your hair. For guys, you'll need towel to wrap it around your waists as you change into new set of pants.

EXTRA CLOTHES
It is always safe to carry an extra pair of clothes, just in case you decide to get full wet, without using raincoats or umbrellas.

WATERPROOF MAKEUP
Firstly, when on monsoon trips, apply minimal makeup. Go ahead with a waterproof lipstick and a thin line of kajal. So while packing, just keep these two items in your vanity.

SNACKS
If it's raining heavily outside, you might prefer to stay inside the car. For this, you'll need to stock on snacks. Carry those monsoon special snacks, or if not, roasted corn and chai is heaven for this weather.

UMBRELLAS
We often are in two minds about how many umbrellas to carry, or if at all to carry any. I would suggest you guys to carry as many umbrellas as the people travelling. For my Bhimashankar trip, we had carried four umbrellas as we were four people. It often happens that the rains are so violent, that you wished there were many umbrellas.

RAINCOATS
Raincoats or rain-jackets make a way for your hands. However, not everybody owns one. It is always recommended to carry raincoats if you have them.

EXTRA PAIR OF FOOTWEAR
If you're going for a trek, your shoes will get muddy, so you'll definitely need a pair of dry footwear. During my trek, everybody except me had carried an extra pair, and they were happy to have clean feet. On the other hand, I was annoyed of my wet and muddy shoes.

CHARGER
If you've planned on going from early morning to late evening, you'll need a charger (or a car charger) so that you can call back to your homies complaining about the traffic jam and that you'll be late. Also, you won't be a miser to click selfies or use the Google maps, if your phone's battery is doing well.

SONGS
Pile up all types of songs in your car. From fun, rock 'n' roll, to slow, romantic songs. You'll need all of them, trust me.

PLASTIC BAGS
You'll need plastic bags to dump wet clothes, umbrellas, and raincoats. These come in handy, and keep the car's interior dry as well.

What else will you add to this list?

There's only one reason why my hair looked gorgeous and shiny during my monsoon trips. I went outing thrice--trekking at Lohagad, road-trip to Gorai, and a three-days trip to Bhimashankar. Out of these, for the trekking I had not used this trick, but my hair were doing good as I had tied a tight ponytail. However, during other two trips, I had used this trick, and my hair thanked me. No wonder why all of my selfies were so stunning. I've never looked good in selfies at a stretch, you know?

All right, so what is this trick? All you need to carry is a hair serum and a comb. By comb, I mean a flat comb and not a brush. Due to the rains, your hair are wet and weak already. So it is advisable to carry a comb, and not a brush. I use this Roots No. 38 Comb.
Which serum to use? You can absolutely use any serum you want. No need for it to be just frizz-free. You can go for any serum you have at home, and apply it on your hair at regular intervals. I am currently using Loreal Total Repair Serum

For my Gorai road-trip, I had applied serum twice--first, when we got onto a dry land (i.e., to have lunch) without a comb, and after lunch, with comb, when I also had reapplied my lipstick. My hair went from frizzy and dry to smooth and shiny.

What I did during my trip to Bhimashankar was way beyond the definition of me; we had travelled by car and due to the long distance, we all were laid back. Whenever we got down for clicking pictures, I used to comb my hair with the serum after getting back inside the car. I had such less amount of hair falling, and the hair quality? Ah! Stunning!

So, next time you go on Monsoon trips, or for that matter winter trips too, don't forget to carry a serum with you. Don't keep it in your luggage, but in your carry-on tote, which will be with you all the time. Trust me with this one. And yes, I am a girl with fine, straight hair, with an oily scalp, so if it suits my hair type, it definitely will suit yours.

To make things believable, I'm sharing few selfies I took on my trip to Bhimashankar:

You know, sometimes we get the urge of shouting from the bottom of our hearts, saying how ambitious we are and how much we're putting in. Some people won't buy that, and you feel like bringing forward your best poker face, with a flame in your eyes, saying...Just Watch Me Rise.

If you're feeling low that in spite of giving your cent percent, you're still not achieving the goals you set for yourselves, then worry not. There will be one fine day when everything will be all right and you'll rise...rise up from the crowd of the mediocre.

You never were mediocre; you were always meant to be someone they would never even imagine. There's still lot of time...be patient...the time will come when you finally will rise.

It was a wonderful trip with my mom, dad, and brother. The destination was Shivthar Ghal initially, as my mom wanted to visit it. It’s a place where people say Shivaji Maharaj had met Samarth Ramdas.
However, coincidentally, it started raining heavily around the date we were travelling. Our plan was still intact. We left on 2nd August at 3:30 p.m. I had to go to my college to fill examination form, and it was apparently the last date to fill. So I had to go to college anyhow. I came home at 1:45, and then after lunching, we left. We decided to halt one night at our Pune Home, as Shivthar Ghal is nearer from Pune than it is from Mumbai.
We went by our car and reached Pune at around 7:00 pm. We changed to home clothes, and then after some time of script writing, I went to the kitchen to toast bread slices. As you know during travelling, we all are so dehydrated, that we don’t really feel like eating; so we just had toast for dinner.
Next morning, we had to leave early, however, previous night, my uncle who lives in Pune, had warned us of going to Shivthar Ghal, due to the heavy rains and bad roads. It was morning and my uncle said again to not go there. We thankfully agreed and changed our plan to Bhimashankar, which is approximately 120 kms away from Pune.

You must be knowing about the horrible mishap that took place, where the Mumbai-Goa bridge collapsed, washing away 2 buses and many cars. If we would have gone to Shivthar Ghal, the bridge could have been on our route. Now you know why I'm happy that we agreed to my uncle?

However, my brother was a bit upset as we changed our plan. He has visited Bhimashankar many times before and wanted to go to Shivthar Ghal this time. But, the unfortunate rains...

Halted for breakfast

The next morning, we changed our plan, and left for Bhimashankar at 8:20 am. We had tea and biscuits to fill our tummies, but also halted for a proper breakfast mid-way. After feasting on wadapav, misal, and onion bhajjis, we left for our way ahead.

The road was crazy...there was absolute fog, and it was so thick that we could see the road only few metres away. It was as though we were driving in heaven. Whenever it rained, the fog disappeared. We halted many times to click pictures with the beautiful greenery as the background.

We finally reached Bhimashankar at 12:45 pm. The temple is beautiful...cold, peaceful, and a must visit. If you love travelling (especially for bike lovers, this could be an adventure), are a Lord Shiva bhakt, and love monsoon trips, this place is a must visit. The roads are surely gonna drive you crazy...

After lunch

After darshan, we started our way back. On our way, we had corn, wadapav, and tea, not because we were hungry, but because the weather demanded. At 4:00 pm, we had lunch in a horribly disgusting dhaba. I found a fly in the Chhole bhaaji that we had ordered and I stopped eating it immediately. I had finished 1 and a half butter-roti till then, and so my stomach was in a good state.

We reached our Pune Home by 7:50 pm and immediately got ready for dinner with the extended family. We went to the Garden Court hotel, and, well, there's a long story to tell! We came home and then we dozed off. I felt so good. My cousin brother was there too...he slept in my brother's room; whereas, I slept in the living room, on a mattress, with my daddy's sweater.

Next day, we left after having breakfast, and reached Mumbai...it was so good to be back on a stable land after travelling for three days straight.
