The Pretty City Girl | Indian Travel & Lifestyle Blog

July passed by so quickly. If you ask me to list down July favourites at this very moment, I would be able to write none. The month just passed by. I'll have to take a look at the blog and pictures from my cellphone in order to recollect the happenings of July.

NEW PHONE (WELL, ALMOST)
I exchanged my former HTC Desire 820 with my dad's Huawei Honor 5X, just for the camera. HTC camera sucks, because it sharpens the pictures so harshly, that even if you don't have pimples on your face, the camera will still show a rough skin. I had had enough, and this was the first time I asked to give away my cell. Usually, when exchanging my phone, I cry.
I'm happy with the camera quality, so my new phone is indeed a favourite.

PERFECT MORNING ROUTINE
I have finally developed a morning routine which I am so happy about. In the routine, of course, there's an inclusion of workout.

ROAD TRIP WITH SCHOOLMATES
I went to a distant beach with my schoolmates today. It was fun! I wish I could write about it in detail right now, but I'm saving it for some other day.

NEW PROJECT AS A SCRIPT WRITER
I'll be writing script for an upcoming web series, and this will be my first ever project as a script writer. I'll share the link of the video once it is up.

What were your July favourites?

I am glad that my best friend introduced me to this brand. I love everything about it and I'm gonna buy it in different shades very soon. There are pastels, nudes, and dark shades available, and at one point, choosing one shade would indeed be difficult.

Read on further to know the detailed review.

PACKAGING
The packaging looks adorable. As the tube is made of plastic, it is travel friendly. The fonts are pretty, adding to the design of the product.

APPLICATION & TEXTURE
The application is super smooth. The wand just glides on the lips. You don't need to moisturise lips before applying it. The texture is creamy, like the name says.

Looks more subtle in real

COLOUR
I loved its colour. It's my go-to pink shade. It is a shade between baby pink and pink. Looks subtle and classy on white skin tone, whereas a bit flashy on other skin tones.

LASTING POWER
The lasting power is good. If you apply it in monsoon, lipstick won't fade away. It doesn't smudge too. Also, while eating, it goes off a little, but after rubbing lips together, the colour is spread evenly. Due to this, one need not bother about lips looking horrible after meals; you just have to rub the lips together and the work's done (temporarily, but definitely done). I have never reapplied this lipstick, unless I'm out for long, and really need to look fresh again.

PROS
- Smooth application
- Super inexpensive
- Shade goes on almost every skin tone
- No need to moisturise lips before application
- Looks great on lips as it's matte
- Smells different, but good
- Good lasting power

CONS
- Availability could be an issue

CONCLUSION
Must buy!

We all want to travel and explore the world, go in the wild, click photographs, and be a travel-bug. But, what we're forgetting is that we live in a wonderful city ourselves, and that, we can find all that's happening right around us. We ignore the beauty of the city we're living and go for some foreign destinations. It's as if we're so busy chasing the faraway stars, that we're absolutely forgetting about the brilliant moon that's around us.

Therefore, I have made a City Guide, where you can do all sorts of activities in and around the very city you live in.

PUBS/LOUNGES
(It's weird, but nowadays I'm truly interested in the night-life.) You can hit all the pubs, clubs, lounges, and discos of your city, and figure out which one you like the best. Now, no need to trouble your brain every Saturday night. Just make a list of all the happening places, and visit them every Saturday.

CAFES
Cafes are places to hang out and chill. They're calm, and best of all, have coffee! Try out all the cafes in your city and find the difference between their interiors and lattes! Cafes are great hangout spots, and reuniting with your friends here is something to look forward to.

MUSEUMS & HISTORICAL PLACES
If you have any museums in the city, visit them. You'll be surprised by some facts and it never hurts to know more. You can also try other places of historical importance--be it an old temple or the house that was built some 300 years ago.

WATER BODIES
If you've got any water body in your city, what are you waiting for? Go there and have some splash in the cold monsoon or the very hot summer! You can search for water bodies like waterfalls, beaches, lakes, ponds, rivers, seas, oceans, etc.

ENTERTAINMENT PARKS & WATER RESORTS
If your city has those cool amusement parks and water resorts, it is something I really must not tell. Just have some fun, guys!

GARDENS
No matter how cheesy gardens are, they're beautiful. Visit all the gardens in your city, and relive childhood. Don't forget that they're an excellent photography-spot too.

FAMOUS EATERIES
Oh that famous wadapav-wala? Or the lip-smacking, spicy misal that's crazily popular? Why don't you try it out? Visit all those hyped restaurants, no matter how unhygienic they are. After all, they're popular for some reason.

MOUNTAINS/HILLS (FOR TREKKING)
I'm sure there must be one trekking spot at least 15 to 20 kilometres away from your home. It's time you take out your trekking-shoes and go climbing! Visit a mountain/hill that's in your city as your next trekking-spot.

FORESTS & WILD
Just like there is a mountain/hill near you, there also could be a forest where humans are allowed. I think you should definitely go there, especially if you're a wild photographer. You'll come across species you've never seen before.

SANCTUARIES, ZOOS, AQUARIUMS
Ahan! Who doesn't love non-humans? I sure do! Dig in Google and search for all the places where these furry and wet living things are!

ROADS
Those lonely, crazy roads that you always thought were perfect for road-trips might really be perfect. You will not know unless you go on them. Get a car, pack it with your best buds, and go road-tripping! Try all those roads that connect with different cities. Halt at random food-stalls and be a travel-bug for real.

LOCAL EVENTS
You always get invited for some or the other local event on Facebook. It's time you check for their details and visit one. You never know, but you might find it useful!

OTHER FAMOUS SPOTS
There could be many such famous spots in your city where everyone has already gone and made a fuss about it on social media. You too go there and make fuss yourselves!

I hope this guide was useful and I hope you really explore the very own city you're living in. I'm gonna upload a EXPLORE YOUR CITY Printable soon, so watch this space.

I didn't know how to put the title, so I settled with this one. In this post, I'm gonna write about a method I follow in order to remember medicine schedule, i.e., the dosage, time to take, etc. I visited a doc today and she prescribed a lot of medicines, that too, to consume them at different times.

This method is simple, and all you need is a marker and the doctor's prescription.

Just take the bottle or the medicine's strip, and write the dosage, with what to take, and the time slot on it. I have written something like '1 N | hot water', '2 N | 5 mins', '1/2 M | milk', etc.
Here, 1, 2, 1/2 is the dosage; N and M stand for Night and Morning respectively; and hot water and milk mean that I have to take my medicines with them respectively.

I have used this method many times and it has proven useful. I think you guys should use it too. And, if you find it difficult, there's a free printable to make things easier.

DOWNLOAD

HOW TO USE THE PRINTABLE?
Firstly, you gotta click on the link 'DOWNLOAD' and print your very own sheet on an A4 size paper. This sheet is for an individual, but could be used for one family as well. I'll quickly explain the terms used in the printable:

NAME: This is the name of the person who is consuming medicines.
NO.: This is the serial number of the types of medicines you'll be taking.
MEDICINE NAME: The name of the tablet/pill/syrup.
DOSAGE: You can write something like '2', which indicates taking two tablets/pills at one go. If you're taking syrup, then you can write '1/2 tsp', '1 cap', etc.
TIME SLOT: The time to take the medicine. You can write something like 'After Dinner', '5 Minutes Before Bed', etc.
NOTES: You can write a summary of number of medicines you're taking in one time slot. For example, the doctor has prescribed four tablets after dinner, so I'll write '4 After Dinner'. This space is provided for notes, where you can also write 'take with hot water', 'take with milk', etc.

This printable can be useful for the doctors to write down prescription as well. If you need a formal-looking printable, request one. All you have to do is get this printed at wholesale rate and give them to your patients.

PACKAGING
The lip cream looks classy in the glass tube. I also happened to like the fonts on the tube. But as the product is made of glass, it is brittle. The name of the brand is written on the lid with a darker impression.

This is the wand of shade 427 of same range

APPLICATION
The application is smooth, like a cream. However, applying can be a tedious job, as in case you do a mistake, removing the lip cream becomes difficult. So it is better to use a similar shaded lipstick to draw an outline and then fill the lips with this matte lipstick.

LOOK & FEEL
The lip cream looks more towards red than seen in the picture. It is the perfect red, and it is matte. The lips look fantastic, however, just like it is with matte lipsticks, your lips might feel dried out.

PROS
- Inexpensive
- Looks classy on lips
- Perfect red

CONS
- Matte, hence lips feel dry
- Matte, hence one must be careful while applying

CONCLUSION
Buy it.

Everybody must make following lists to have a fun-filled life:

BOOKS TO READ
This is one such list not just book lovers must make, but also everyone else should make. If you're not really into books, it's fine. You don't have to read those cool books that are trending, but can make a list of those books you're interested in. For example, love sports? Make a list of books on great sporting personalities. You can read autobiographies, biographies, or books on records. You can make a list of your interests and then search online for all the must-reads in that genre. Make a list of it, and start reading!

MOVIES/SITCOMS/DOCUMENTARIES TO WATCH
I am a person who definitely has this list. Though I don't have time to watch as much as an average young adult watches, but there are tons of movies, TV shows, and documentaries I want to watch. You also can make a list for yourself and keep a track of movies you want to watch and have watched.

PLACES TO VISIT
This can be any local trekking spot or a country you want to badly visit. Make a list of all the cities, museums, countries you want to visit, and you'll know your next vacation spot!

THINGS TO TRY
This can be bizarre things. For someone like me, who does not drink or smoke, something like 'Taking a Puff' or 'Drinking Once' can be a part of this list. (Don't worry; I don't have it in mine.) You can write down weird sex fantasies, or something like going to the jail at least once. (There are people who have such things.) Make a list of all those adventurous activities you want to do once before you die.

DAILY TO-DO
Like I always ask you guys to make a daily to-do list, seriously, make one. You'll know how you procrastinate your tasks and how you really need to start working and making an organised schedule. Try to finish as many daily to-dos as possible.

RECIPES TO TRY
And finally, for all the foodies out there, make a list of recipes to try and restaurants to visit. It'll be useful as you'll know where to go on your next date, along with the knowledge of how to make a Nutella Chocolate Brownie Pie too!

What kind of lists other than those mentioned above have you made?

Remember I'd told you guys about my one-page column in the magazine Know Your Town? I'm gonna share here my columns from previous months. This is my first ever column and I'm definitely proud.

I came to know about this through a friend. I thought that since I know so much about this particular city, there was no harm in grabbing the opportunity. I write on 'shopping', and my column is titled 'Shop Talk'. I write about where you can get good stuff in Thane city.

I'm sharing my June month's column, where I've written an article on street shopping.

For July, I have written an article on 'Monsoon Makeover', where I've mentioned those places where you would find good umbrellas or waterproof makeup or waterproof watches. All you Thanekars, go and grab a copy of your own!

If you're like me when it comes to the pain of first days of periods, this post will be useful for you. On the first day, we girls feel so gross, so depressed, and we're literally crying in pain wishing we were boys. On this day, you become so weak and fatigued, that you have absolutely no energy to take a shower. If that's the case with you, don't worry; I have figured out a fantastic way to freshen yourself up.

On the first day, when you finally start to gain energy and also when your pain is reduced, you can follow this method to freshen up yourself without showering, but feeling as though you actually have. I know that showering during periods is the most important factor of personal hygiene, but the weakness has certainly overpowered us, and there's no way we are showering; what if we faint inside the bathroom?

That's exactly when TPCG comes to the rescue. These are the steps I actually follow, without feeling worn out at all.

CLEANING VAGINA WITH BABY WIPES
I had previously mentioned about this particular trick on the blog. But for this post, I'll write it again. Baby wipes are the best kind of wipes for cleaning your vagina. They're the mildest kind of wipes out there and as they're meant for after-potty cleansing, they're obviously mild for your delicate areas too.
Grab a baby wipe and clean the vaginal and anal areas. You can use one or two wipes, depending on how dirty the areas are. Don't worry about blood sticking to your fingers, as you can wash your hands using a hand-wash later.

SPRINKLING VAGINAL POWDER
Once you're done cleaning, sprinkle vaginal powder down there to balance  wetness caused by wet wipes. The fragrance of the wipes and the powder will make you feel instantly fresh.

CHANGING CLOTHES
If it's one of the summer seasons, you'll feel like changing your clothes. Do that, or else, you can also skip this step. But, if you've got stains on your shorts and underwear, you'd obviously want to change them!

COMBING AND TYING HAIR
You don't need to necessarily detangle your hair, but just brush softly down your tresses and tie a sideward ponytail. As you'll be sleeping and resting the whole day, a back ponytail will hurt your head. So it is better to tie a ponytail sideways. By doing this, you'll get all your hair together, plus those irritating strands are off your face.

WASHING FACE
During periods, we tend to sweat a lot. Best way to feel fresh is to wash face. Take your regular cleanser and wash your face thoroughly, thus not missing out on the forehead, especially those areas near hair.

TREATING ACNE
Usually, when we are about to meet the due date, we can see a pimple or two popping up on our faces. You can apply pimple-reducer creams like a toothpaste, and clear the acne before you're all set to head back to work on the second day.

SPRAYING DEODORANT
Lastly, spray a mild deodorant on your armpits to feel, and smell fresh. Don't fail to spray a mild deodorant, as the heavy ones can lead you feeling nauseous, and then, throwing up. You never know what can be a good turn-off when on periods!

These are the actual steps I follow on first days of periods, when taking a shower is just a difficult thought.

What method do you follow?

This particular photo was from the second day of shoot. The call-time was as early as 5:30 a.m. and we needed some time to get energised. This one's from a jogger's park in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

The actress required less makeup and so I gave a natural makeup look on her face, with a tint of lipstick or lip balm, eyeliner, mascara, concealer, and compact powder.
The actor had a little mark on his upper cheek, so I just had to conceal that, and dab some compact powder to brighten the face.

The characters were college-going students, so I did not play with bags and footwear, and just gave the actress two pairs of flip-flops in the entire song.

I'm sharing few stills and few outfits from the shoot:

While styling, I had to see that the costumes of the actors complemented each other. I also had to change actor's outfits according to the mood. He was shown happy (and romantic) as well as heartbroken and depressed; I had to give him light shades when happy and dark shades when sad.
Also, the director's requirement was only pastel coloured outfits. So, even in dark shades, I had to use pastel type of dark shades, for example, a dark grey. Only once in the song we've used black shirt for the guy to show extreme depression, where he's crying in the rain.

So finally, here's sharing the music video:

PACKAGING
I didn't quite like the way the compact looks. It is a simple white with cheap texture, making it appear as though it is a breakable plastic. I did like the way 'Maybelline New York' is written on it, though.

APPLICATION
At first, when I had tried applying the powder, it was difficult. The powder would not stick to the puff. I had to press the puff and then apply. Initially I did not see any difference on my skin. But now, everything is good--the application and the visibility of powder on face.

FRESHNESS AND FEEL
The powder makes you feel fresh, thus holding back the secretion of oil. The feel is soft and feather-like.

PROS
- The price is reasonable
- Feels fresh

CONS
- Packaging could have been better

CONCLUSION
Buy it.

I have come across many people who know very few things about their own self. They have little knowledge of who they are, what they want to be, or their opinions on general issues that happen around the world.
In order to get to know yourself better, I have written down 30 questions. Download the printable worksheet that has three pages and try to answer all the questions. You'll be stunned to know the result. Take as much time as you want and do keep it private. Write down just whatever you feel like.
You can answer these after every year and you'll see how certain dreams have changed and how opinions on certain issues remain the same.

My best friend's birthday is on the 12th of July, and I'm badly hoping she doesn't go through my blog before her day. I thought of sharing a greeting card I made, which me and few other best friends are gonna gift her. It's a surprise; I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed, hoping she doesn't see her card before her birthday.

So, she's studying architecture, final year. She is the most motivated girl I've ever come across; she's career-oriented, hardworking, and just knows what she's got to do in life. It's great to have a best friend like her, as we highly relate in this aspect of our lives.

Here's sharing things and steps you'll need to make a card out of two tinted sheets. I have also uploaded a video of the final product, so do take a look:

THINGS YOU'LL NEED

  • Green Marker
  • Silver Pen
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Glue
  • Pair of Scissors
  • Washi Tape
  • Yellow (Tinted) Sheet
  • Grey (Tinted) Sheet x 2
STEPS

1. Fold yellow and grey sheets into half.
2. Stick the left side of the grey sheet on the right side of the yellow. (Refer the picture above.)

3. Take another grey sheet and fold it into half. Cut it along the fold.
4. Paste one of the halves in the inner side to cover the yellow colour.

5. Write whatever you want and decorate the first page. I have used silver coloured washi tapes and have written the message using a green bold marker. I have highlighted the letters using a silver pen. I purposely used a silver colour, because I wanted to create a harmony with the silver washi tape and the overall grey layout of the card.

6. After opening the flaps, stick washi tapes to the sides of the card.

7. Write the message on left side of the card. (You can skip this step if you have less content.)

8. Write a message on the right side too. If you noticed, I have used a different washi tape here, just to bring about a differentiation in the messages of the two sides of the card.

9. Write the main message here. Make sure to make it dramatic and you're done with the card! (I'm thinking of adding some glitters to this message, but I do not have silver glitter as of now.)

Also, I'm sharing a video of how the card looks.
