How to Wash Dishes the Right Way

by - May 23, 2016

When the maid is absent, sometimes my mom asks me to do the dishes. I happily do it as I love washing dishes. There's a reason for that, though; I love washing them because of the lemon flavoured dish wash liquid. But, there's another reason too--I absolutely love the process I follow.

In this guide, I am going to share how to wash dishes in proper steps to get an organized outcome. The process might be lengthy, but you'll absolutely love doing more dishes.

You'll need to start this process with different types of utensils:

PLATES
In order to get an organized outcome, you'll have to follow the below mentioned process in groups. First, start with all the flat items like plates, dishes of various sizes, saucers, pans, etc.

LARGE VESSELS
All the vessels in which you cook and have some depth come under this. Once you've arranged plates and other flat objects, go on with the heavy stuff.

CUPS AND GLASSES
Take extreme care while washing cups, glasses, and mugs as they could break while you do so.

BOWLS
In India, we have small sized bowls in which we serve daal or other liquid green leafy vegetables. While washing big bowls of cereals and noodles, include these small bowls too.

SPOONS
Under this, not just spoons but all the longer looking objects include. Serving spoon, ice cream scoop, forks, knives, etc. come under this.

Once you know the types of utensils, go ahead with the process:

CLEAN WITH WATER
Firstly, grab utensils according to their type and wash using plain water. For example, wash plates and other flat dishes using water and keep them on the platform near the sink. Do this with all the plates.

SCRUB FOOD PARTICLES
If at all a utensil has those stubborn food particles stuck, take a scrub and remove them.

CLEAN USING LIQUID SOAP AND SCRUB
Now, my favourite step. Take a bit of liquid soap on the scrub, wet it, and clean all the utensils that are washed.

RINSE WITH WATER
Rinse the soap as thoroughly as possible. I recommend not using the gloves as you won't be able to sense whether a utensil has been properly rinsed off or not. For spoons, glasses, cups, and mugs, be sure to put in more efforts while rinsing as our mouth comes in direct contact with these utensils.

KEEP UP FOR DRYING
Now, our trick of washing utensils as per similarities come in handy. While drying, make sure to organize the utensils in such a way that your kitchen platform looks neat and clean. Keep the dishes and plates upright with a slant towards the wall. Keep large vessels near the plates, in an upside-down position. Keep cups, glasses, and mugs near the wall for safety measures. Keep bowls near the edge of platform. And lastly, keep all the lengthy items together, wherever there's enough space.

By following this process, not only does your kitchen look neat and organized, but also when you have to keep the utensils back to their places, you are happy as the task is done easily without any hassles.

What's your process of washing dishes?
xoxo
